Is FL2 still a british car?

Dear british members,
I owned some british cars before buying my FL2: I started very many years ago with an old Triumph Herald, then a Rover 2000 TC, a Land Rover 88, a Morgan 4/4 and today a ride a Triumph Bonneville. All of them were fascinating and I could feel a british atmosphere. Not the same in the FL.

Maybe it depends on the time (nowadays a car, and every object, is about the same all over the world), perhaps I mix up the idea of England and the Old England one.
In any case, when i drive my new FL, I can't taste any tipical english flavour! Someone could say:"Not bad! Remember Lucas, The prince of darkness! Or every no reliable old Jaguar!" ...But I loved them!

I'd like to know what a british people thinks about it.

Thank you and sorry for my poor english Embarassed

I try to explain what I mean: I do like my Freelander, but I can't find the british soul I supposed to feel. For instance, on the sill of the boot in my '73 Rover was written on a decal "please,do not slam". It was very english! In none continental car somebody would have put a sticker like that. Or I could talk about the Connolly's fragrance mixed with Castrol Oil in my Morgan, or the long switches in my Land Rover series III.

Perhaps mine it's only nostalgia: I'm confusing the place-taste with the time-taste. Maybe!

However, God save the Queen FL! I'll never put my b****m on a Jap! Wink

Externally the FL2 is as much a lout as any Land Rover, with the exception of the Defender which is distinctly "Doomsday in Doncaster".

Internally it is difficult to associate the FL2 with England's "green n pleasant pastures". There's no Churchillian "cri de coeur" or Brunel's "blazon".

I suggest therefore that you play Elgar's "Pomp and Circumstance" immediately after you have started the engine, then images of pints of beer, Diana, cricket, and Big Ben will glaze your eyes; tears of joy will flow down your cheeks and your soul will be transported to the heaven which is Albion.

You are right in what you say, most cars are pretty much the same to look at as everything else in it's class & my problem with the Freelander is it is too reminiscent of a Ford!

I love my British cars & have 2 of them (3 I guess with the FL2) & possibly a 4th next week. (Past) Freelander 2 HSE 2010 MY In Rimini Red.
(Past) RR Evoque Dynamic Lux Si4 In Firenze Red.
(Past) RR Evouque Pure Tech in Barollo Black with bespoke Firenze Red colour coding.
(Present) Freelander Metropolis 2015 MY In Santorini Black with Ivory Premium Leather.

England

The only nostalgia I personally feel towards this country is to a time before the moral fabric was slowly eroded by immigrants, benefit scroungers, louts and slags and we are left with the turd hole that is modern Britain.

If you're suggesting SOME not ALL immigrants I agree, But THE Immigrants I refer to are the ones that come over here with zero skills to offer, can't & don't want to speak English and do not add anything to our society, have no means to support themselves and are a drain on the already strained economy?

If a British citizen wants to emigrate to NZ or OZ you need a Skill that they need to enhance their society/economy and need to have a certain amount of funds to support yourself.

Please don't say I am racist because I am not and this is not a rant about Immigrants but about people of all colours and creeds who make this country a poorer place to reside.

Mike

Idea Mike - as you are clearly "one of those people" perhaps you'd like to gracefully exit instead of soiling this forum with your innate bigotry Idea
