Don't forget the mpg is an average = if it starts off poor then you need to do more 'good' miles to bring it up to a reasonable figure. Thumbs Up

The more 'poor' miles you do then the less likely you will improve it - best way might be to reset the trip every 100 miles or so to see what you are getting. There's always a way forward!

2011 Freelander Td4 GS 150 - Rimini Red - in its place - Better x far x 4!!

I wish I could get 44 mpg, I was getting 38 mpg on my work run until January when all of a suddden my mpg dropped to 33 and I've not been able to get it up back again no matter how careful I drive. Tried a couple of bottles of fuel system cleaner but alas no difference. I have been using VPower diesel.

Any Ideas? Very Happy

Yes, I checked tyres and also checked engine oil level. I forgot to mention that around 6 times in the last 3 months when I drop to 4th or 5th gear to overtake, the car accelerates for a couple of seconds and then loses power for a second or two before accelerating again. Could this be fuel or air filter related ? Very Happy

30mpg out of mine. The actual figures:
- Urban - 25.2 mpg
- Extra Urban - 37.7 mpg
- Combined - 33.2 mpg

So the old 10% less than combined works out again!!! Hi Darling, I'll be home in 10 mins. If I'm not back, please read this message again...

Cold weather effects the mpg quite a bit, should go up again when/if the weather gets warmer ______________________

Now I'm confused. Back in those dark Subaru Forester days, I took it to a rolling road. They said that they could get another 25% power out of the engine by using a larger intercooler, cold air intake and remap. Basically cooler air takes up less space and so there is more air in the cylinders improving combustion and burn. Whether this is the same with diesel I really don't know, but I thought that fuel economy improved slightly in the cold.

But I may, and it certainly wouldn't be the first time, but talking Censored !!! Hi Darling, I'll be home in 10 mins. If I'm not back, please read this message again...

Nope, I've found it. Totally talking out of my ar Censored

MPH-----AMBIENT-TEMP-----MPG (US)

60------------95----------52.98
60------------85----------52.62
60------------75----------51.16
60------------65----------49.12
60------------55----------47.22
60------------45----------44.67
60------------35----------43.05
60------------25----------41.54
60------------15----------39.41
60------------05----------38.09

Then these figures are for a Civic Hybrid and probably don't count. Hi Darling, I'll be home in 10 mins. If I'm not back, please read this message again...

I must admit, I thought colder air temp improved mpg on Turbo engined vehicles? Very Happy It was -10 centigrade on my way to work at 3am this morning and my mpg reading did drop. Sad

You will find you'll get better economy when the weather is damp and foggy something to do with the water vapour helps diesel atomise better for combustion.

Thinking back to my hill climbing days, using a CO2 fire extinguisher on the intercooler rad gave a significant increase in power Thumbs Up ______________________
