Have a look at this, can it be played back via the Nav screen?

United Kingdom 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 XS Manual Zermatt Silver

A friend of mine has this fitted to not only his car but a number of Lorries he runs - The main reason is that it helps with his Insurance and has already saved him considerable sums (not having to pay a large Excess) being that it will record everything day and night whilst driving in fairly good quality - Everything is saved to a SD Card so as long as the medium you want it played back on has one it will playback. (I don't have a LR screen so don't know if they have one)

Regards

Nick

It's connects to a lighter socket and sits on the windscreen high up to get a good view, he has it near the rear view mirror - when I first saw it I thought it was a road angel or something like that and he explained that he had initially had them on trial and went from there - Only issues is more wires / cables.

I'm not sure it will give a discount against Insurance however it will provide evidence (hopefully in your favour) if you had an accident which would mean that you had a solid claim to recover your excess (assuming the other person is insured) - My friend has a high excess of £5k on his lorries so the cost of the unit is a small, in comparrison.

There is a 'black box' of sorts, in the manual it states " Event data recorders are capable of collecting and storing data during a crash or near-crash event. The module will record information on how many occupants and the vehicle itself.
a) Whether seat belts were buckled.
b) How far, if at all, the driver was pressing the accelerator and/or the brake pedal.
c) How fast the vehicle was travelling.
d) Where the driver was positioning the steering wheel.

Land rover technicians do not access the info without obtaining consent but a court order made by an insurance company will reveal it.
