The weather

The snow started two weeks ago and has never cleared. 17" later and more snow this coming week.

Taken on Saturday, 2nd January on the A9 north of Inverness and yes, I was stopped when it was taken. Some wally in a Clio who'd been better off in front of the fire holding everyone up. For info. I was in a Discovery rather than the wifes Freelander. I have some more dramatic photos of the snow. The TC hasn't been off the snow setting for a good while. It hits the MPG big time.

Yep, the LR's are holding up well. I don't have to dig the drive to get them out onto the road. I can't help but snigger at those poor unfortunates that do. I remember the days well when I had to do the same.

Neither the Freelander or the Discovery have given me any heart stopping moments, nor have they slid about. The odd minor slip or ABS coming on a bit at junctions perhaps, but no wheel spinning or total lock up. The Freelander is not quite as firm as the Discovery, but that will be down to the weight of the vehicle.

Snow is forecast for Monday and Tuesday with heavy falls and more later in the week. We are going a bit cabin crazy at the moment. To think I was abroad in 95 degree heat a short time ago. Wish I'd stayed there.

Aviemore is very busy. People that had purchased ski passes from the local shops couldn't get parked at the ski centre last week, it was full by 9.30am. It was very busy. Apologies all round and refunds.

Very cold there. I remeber going on a snow survival course at the Glenmore Lodge. Digging snow holes and being stuck with a bin bag over my head with a compass and told to find my way from A to B, that sort of boys own stuff.

Sick of the cold weather, had truck on the farm with frozen air brakes at 3 am. it blocked the road for 3 other trucks arriving to collect chickens. I couldnt even tow it with the tractor as the brakes would not unfreeze. mechanics and a tow truck arrived. I elected to be in control of 'floodlighting' which involved sitting in the tractor, heater on full...making sure the work lights on the tractor remained illuminated . finally got him towed away at 7am.
Still the cold did have an advantage the hgv's where able to drive across a ploughed field due to the deep frost and 10,000 chickens where delivered to 'chicken heaven' . coming to plate near you soon Thumbs Up At work

Poor little chickens - how cruel can you be sending them to their deaths in freezing weather. Mad
Cant understand why you money grabbing farmers cant wait until its warmer before sending chickens out on a holiday trip Thumbs Up 2007 Freelander 2 HSE TD4 Manual with Premium Pack & Moonroof.

Getting more and more snow in Manchester, went to drop Mrs and she is the only one turned up at the office out of over 60 people so had to go and pick her up again...very nice driving up in mostly empty roads Very Happy

FL2 holds really well, just MPG gone down a lot, must be down to the resistance of fresh snow. Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Auto

i notice that there was a build up of slush/snow behind my front wheel (where a mud flap would be)

and when pull up and putting the car in full lock, without moving i noticed that the wheel wasn't turning as much, (thought power steering pump) but once i moved it went that little bit extra

Any body else found this? Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

3 Cheers for farmers (not chicken farmers-real ones)

If it wasn't for farmers with JCBs our village would still be cut off, they have cleared a path so that the milk tanker can get through.

Npinks - I may have noticed the issue that you have mentioned but thought that maybe its because steering is very light..

My mudflaps are collecting large amount of snow and its almost touching the snow on the ground, just wondering what would happen if the snow is very deep and when mudflap goes out of the tyre path (when turning). Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Auto
