Child locks defeat grown man...

Hi all, first post here - been reading a while before finally buying mine and it's been useful advice!
Question: I have a model 2 and the child locks are getting the better of me. Before I head to the dealer, I thought I'd see what comes of posting here...
With the child-locks 'on' (it clicks on firmly enough), we can't open the rear doors from inside - so far, so good. But: when I turn the locks off, I still can't open the rear doors from the inside. Actually, once I shut either rear door, the outside handle locks and I have to release the central locking from the fob or driver's dash switch - but the rear doors just won't open from the inside.
Am I missing something? The child lock certainly clicks in two directions and sounds right when it does change over; the inner handle moves normally (it has about the same movement as the front doors do) but without a second car to check against, it's hard to be sure but it all 'feels' connected up.
Anyone got an idea or two? I have a six-year old who's been sitting in his seat for three days now and he'll starve if we can't figure thihs one out soon Wink SE on an 07 plate

...ah, thought of that: even after pressing the unlock-all (fob or dashbaord), the door handles in the rear still refuse to play ball!
*Paradoxically, I don't want child locks but, at the moment, I have no choice. At least it's fail-safe! SE on an 07 plate

RTFM. Whistle
"Rear doors are unlocked using the door buttons if the doors are locked, operating the lever will have no effect."
Page 44 explains and has a diagram. Thumbs Up

Oh, I RTFM'd: there's nothing worse than rolling up to a dealer and have a smirking 28 year old tell you the facts of life....

Here's the situation:
1. I unlock the car with the key - all doors can be opend from the outside (checked this fact)
2. I try to open the rear doors from the INSIDE. No dice. Try the outside again and it's perfect.
3. Check the child lock mode: it's certainly OFF (verified by changing to ON and OFF again - positive click in both directions).
4. Try the door again from the outside - again, perfect operation.
5. Try it from the inside, no go. It's as if the handle isn't connected.

I've read the book; I've looked on forums. Yes, there are some other forums on Freebies - but they're not as good as this one (obliged to say that, aren't I? Wink
Nothing gives me any clues about this and I think I have a duff one. It's not serious and, on the balance of probability, if this is my fault with the Freebie, I can certainly live with it! SE on an 07 plate

I'm not acquainted with all the permutations of the door locking system, but I do know that if I let people out of the rear seats (dropping friends off etc.) I usually have to unlock the doors with the dash button. They are then able to exit normally with the interior levers. Your experiences do differ from mine and your car is the same model, similar era, so I would expect the same behaviour.
Perhaps you're right - the interior levers might be disconnected, perhaps by a previous particularly paranoid owner??
If you can hear the solenoids clunk in the doors when you unlock (fob or dash) then I'd suggest that's the case. Seems unlikely to be a fault if both rear doors behave the same, ie. exterior handles work, interior levers don't.
I'd take it in before your warranty expires and get it sorted. If it's a deliberate previous modification maybe a reasonable dealer would reinstate it under warranty Confused but maybe not.

You're not alone with this. My rear doors won't open from the inside no matter whether the child locks are activated or not. Having no kids I've learnt to live with it but it's a pain in the a Censored e for rear seat passengers when they want to get out quickly.

Before pulling the levers can you pull on the switch first.
It has to be pulled in the same direction as the lever for it to work.
What effect does that have?

....just to clarify.
My rear doors are, of course, child lock disabled, but I still need to press the dash button to unlock the rear doors as they have been locked by the drive-away auto-lock feature, not child lock feature.

Nope, definitely page 59. I have one of the first ones built so I'll have version 1 of the manual. You've probably got a newer revision. It'll be under 'Child Locks' in the index though....
Interesting, however. I wonder how many versions of the manual there are??

For "children locks" in my manual it is page P44 under "Child Safety" and P19 under "Locks" for instructions re the rear doors (enabling /disabling).

My european English Language Owner's Handbook is a 2009 publication number LRL10 02 56 101. The Swiss manual is different again.
