Terrain Response

I needed to cross an area of sheet ice yesterday in a farmyard. Before crossing it I stopped and put it into Grass, Gravel and Snow. It was on a slight incline but part way up the front wheels slightly spun and then the car continued up. My question is should the front wheels have spun slightly been in GGS or was the car still in normal road setting even though the terrain response was still showing GGS.
Is there any easy way to check if terrain response is working correctly? I do get hill descent on in Mud and Ruts but I don't really notice much difference between other settings.

Thanks

sounds normal, GGS allows some spin. if it didnt allow an amount of spin on slippy surfaces then it would never allow any power to the wheels.

however I suggest a full terrain response check over,, sell your van to fund the work Thumbs Up At work

Laughing useful comments as usual Thumbs Up

However it may be cheaper to go on a LRE and learn how and when you should use the different settings and what results to expect. I dont suppose for one moment there is anything wrong with your TR, you just need some expeiance in using it Thumbs Up 2007 Freelander 2 HSE TD4 Manual with Premium Pack & Moonroof.

Thanks AndyC and CG for your replies. As the power is split between front and back wheels in GGS I was expecting all 4 wheels to be spinning at the same time. If it was in normal road setting I would have expected the front wheels to skid a little and then the back wheels to come in.

Thanks

Depends which wheels loose grip first I guess. dont expect the terrain response to 'lock' the front wheels to the back, this doesn't happen . If it did the car would be hard to steer when the wheels re-found grip. My pickup has a locked 4x4 system, Ok for slippy stuff but you must take it out of 4x4 as soon as you drive on grippy surfaces as it does not like any speed differences between the front and rear axles.
Defenders have a centre diff to allow for speed variations, with a manual lock only to be used when the car struggles for grip. At work

Thanks CG. I think you are correct. I have been watching which seems to agree with what you say.

Thanks for the info
