Water leak throught tailgate

I have noticed the last two times I have been to the car wash that water is coming in somewhere in the top middle of the tailgate where it meets the roof. The black weather seal is undamaged and undisturbed. Is this a known fault? the car goes for a service in a few weeks so shall get it sorted then as no water seems to come in from rain water.

Any advice gratefully received Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Freelander 2.2e HSE , Privacy, Fully debadged, 19" Chrome SHadow alloys

Its probably comming through the high level breaklight. The seal around it is kown to fail or leak. Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Auto

This is a trouble of Freelander 2. The replaced backlight can begin to leak too.
I fixed it myself year ago. There is all right now.

Hi level brake light old 'n' new

Thought this pic may help those who are wondering where the leak on the inside of the rear screen is coming from! Check out the state of the seal on the old brake light. I did try the silicone sealant method first but when leak returned decided to buy a new one (p/n: LR014462) from LR it was only £19!

I have a leak in my brake light and was wondering if this draught excluder foam would work in fixing the issue as its cheaper then replacing the unit.

To cure my leaking high level light leak
I put silicone grease on the foam seal and on the paint never leaked since
Hope this helps 👍

Vaseline works well, that's what I used and nearly every house hold should have it Thumbs Up

If you don't have that but need a quick or short term fix then you can always use chapstick ( the stuff you put on your lips in the cold weather ) put lots of that on the seal as a temp fix Smile Freelander 57 plate XS Blue Auto

use plumbers mate on the high vis stop light,it stays soft in case you need to remove it again, see other posts for pictures of foam seal that leaks,we used to use a sealant in the garage called dum dum,on body work to seal things but ive not seen it for a while, anyway, roll the plumers mate in your hands to make a long seal do it in two lenths its eaiser to apply.hope this helps some one in the world!! Very Happy

United Kingdom 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 GS Manual Stornoway Grey

Hi, I'm new to this forum but have referred to it regularly over the last couple of years. I have owned a 56 plate 2007 TD4 GS manual for two years now.

I have just been trying to fix the well known leak in high level brake light. I have tried a few times before using methods from this thread but with no real success.

However this time I noticed that the problem on my 2007 model is that the clear red plastic of the lens had split away from the solid red internal frame. Not all the way round but just about one third of the way across.

This has been allowing water to bypass the seal. This then fills up the lens and eventually finds it's way into the vehicle. I have just tried to seal around the lens with some clear external silicon. Hopefully this will finally fix the leak. If not it may be a new brake light fitting. Fingers crossed. If it works I will update.

Hope this might help. JGH99

Edit: we had torrential rain and wind last night. totally dry inside looks to have worked. JGH 99

Had the same issue with mine, resolved with LR002302 rear window jet which includes the o-ring which was the missing culprit and cost all of £6 squid Thumbs Up

Thanks for update. When I pulled the washer jet out I thought it looked like it should have an O ring. Packed mine with vaseline just in case. How much was the part you used?

cheers JGH99

SORRY early morning post. Rolling Eyes price already given.
