Call from service manager they are looking at the car on Friday.

Matford Land Rover superb service each time I have to deal with them.

Well Whilst waiting I had a quick look at mine again and think the seating was not complete and fully locked.
as when I fitted it today there was a reassuring clunk and the tow ball is absolutely solid.
no sideways or up and down movement.
I tried a few times and it appears rock solid so am waiting on the inspection to see if it is worth replacing the unit.

Shows the rubbish design if it can be fitted, appear secure yet not be. Clearly not "Murphyproof". Whistle

I concur fully!
most likely user error I reckon
as today it fitted and locked each time I tried.
the last time it was the first time I had used it
to tow the trailer about..

Actually I notice on mine that it sometimes has play and clunks and other times it doesn't.
Can't find any reason why this should be the case - it always gets the same good swift push into place and is always green.
I still think it's just bad design!

Looks the same as mine... no clunks or rattles thus far with a 1.6t caravan.

Attended Matford in Exeter
Service manager Paul had tow ball receiver and detachable ball replaced in less than an hour.
1st class superb service.
version 215 now fitted no slack/play and far better to install.

Older thread i know but just had a the same fitted to my FL2 at a big cost but the 'upgrade' hasnt filtered down to my dealership. Rolling Eyes

The clunk is so bad on mine that I refuse to tow anything with it. Going in tomorrow with trailer attached to show them the prob.

I cannot understand JLR's love affair with Thule/Brink. There is a design weakness there for certain that is letting the JLR brand down. If they must buy from the continent then why not go for Westfalia - far superior design. Or keep the business in UK and go for Witter. Cannot be faulted IMO. 10MY (Sept 09) TD4 HSE Auto in Stornoway Grey (Now Gone)

Scotland 2011 Freelander 2 SD4 Sport Auto Fuji White

Hello folks dont mean to drag on this thread, I have spent ages going through this thread it and over most towbar threads. I require a detachable towbar for our new (to me) freelander 2 sport. However i really dont want to have to cut much if anything out of my bumper. The only towbar i can see that doesnt need much removed is this brink one but worried that this fault is still present are people still getting problem with it even though they have modified it? If anyone has a witter or westfallia fitted to a sport/dynamic would be greatfull of a picture to see what it will look like. Regards

Alan

Alan, you have asked this question already here: http://www.freel2.com/forum/topic23293.html

I can assure you the Brink does need a sizeable bumper cut and it is still giving members problems. Don't go there! You have been warned! The Witter is your best bet, I am sure, as it does not need a bumper cut on the standard bumper. Therefore may need a small cut on the Sport.
