Nodge mentions Swirl Flap in this thread.

All I did was remove the flaps cut the vacuum tube where the solenoid switch clips to a bracket at battery side. I sealed the vacuum tube up. I am just wondering if the solenoid switch wiring is looking for a reading not open circuit. |

99% certain that I have caused the faults after doing the glowplugs. I then decided as intake manifold was out to remove the swirl flaps. I in addition removed the swirl flaps actuator and its pipework and disconnected the electrical feed to the solenoid that operated it. It is this that I think is the root cause. Investigating the P2008-00 fault the intake manifold open circuit message it carries on to say swirl circuit open circuit. Which it is. Now I know is a long shot but is there anywhere that I can find the resistance value that is needed to fool the system that it is still connected. I have thrown away all the old gubbins so if I have to I will need to buy a secondhand intake manifold and rig that up. |

You could/should have left the actuator in place & electrically connected. This is definitely your issue, but fitting a resistor will sort it. (Now Sold). 2008 Freelander 2 (Nazca Sand) SE TD4 Auto. Statutory write off & on WOVR for hail damage but still road legal. 171037Km as of 09/05/22 Superchips Bluefin Flash Nanocom Evo II (also sold) |

Resisitor fitted and codes P2196-16 and P2008-00 now eliminted. Just left with the P0299-00 turbo underboost error which bring on the eml if one drives the engine hard. Normal, well for me, tootaling along is fine no eml. Now this whole scenario of faults only manifested itself after taking off the swirlflaps and replacing the glowplugs. So in my opinion I have distrubed something and would thing the actual turbo not at fault. So will do a bit of fiddling about. |

No idea how would I check that? Assume turbo would have to come out. |

I agree with Jules it does sound like Turbo Vane Problems.
