I noticed in the 'Welcome' Thread that 'Simmo' was asking about fitting an undertray.

I cannot find any real info except that the FL2 needs to have the undertray fitted for stiffness - as the MY 2011 says

"The many functions of Terrain Response are underpinned by the high levels of body stiffness which provide the best foundation for excellent ride and handling characteristics as well as off-road performance. A structural undertray on the front sub-frame improves steering precision as well as protecting the underside of the vehicle and four point engine mounting aids engine stability and improves refinement."

Does anyone know if the tray was changed/stiffened on facelift? FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)
FL2 Metropolis SD4 Auto 2014 2017- (16k - 76k+ miles) (MY2015)

I don’t know if there were any changes but when I had occasion to remove the under tray from my MY2007 FL2 it was pretty heavy and moulded to give it strength and there were many more bolts than would be needed for a simple cover.

Hi, you wouldn't happen to know if under tray has common design and fitting points across fl2 td4 range. I have sourced a 2008 tray and need to know if it will fit a fl2 td4 2013.

In Jan 2018 I installed a genuine Mantec front protection plate.
Picked this up second hand, although it is a '317' (model to fit later FL2) I went into the work shop and converted it to a '316' (earlier model FL2) plate. Drilled a few holes made packing spacers, job done. [in fact this plate will now fit ALL model years of FL2s]

I didn't know a Freelander had to have one, my i6 didn't have one when i bought it, just presumed it was a plastic job.
Looks like I've got to find one, hope they are the same for the 3.2 Common sense isn't very common.

I believe all steel under trays are the same, as they bolt to the subframe, which I believe is shared across all years of the Freelander 2. 2009 Rimini Red SE TD4. Soon to be sold.

Apparently there is a noticeable difference with and without the undertray in place. Jules

Surely the greatest advantage will sump protection when off road. I have same on my now knackered shogun. The disadvantage is if course masking oil leaks as is gets soaked in to the foam!

The under tray on the Freelander 2 is a structural member, designed to stop the front subframe from lozenging under load, as well as being part of the front crash protection for the vehicle. 2009 Rimini Red SE TD4. Soon to be sold.
