Electric problem

2010 HSE auto
My car starts perfect every time.
Problem is sometimes on gear selection there is no power.
Have to select neutral which clears fault and drives ok after that.
Sometimes the battery light is on but again selecting neutral clears fault.
Nothing on Autel. New battery well charged. Car runs great.
Not every start, just sometimes
Any idea,anyone? Jim A

Hi Jim, Do a search for "blue wire" The blue wire from the alternator can break internally giving the intermittent alternator light issue. Hope this helps!

I would check the gear linkage

Then do a full fluid flush

Then check the gearbox update has been done

Chips, full fluid flush last month. Cured what I call “cattle grid rumble”.
Auto gear changes are good. Next problem.
Have 600+ trip next week and no chance of getting blue wire looked at.
Once car starts and I get the light gone it runs fine all day.
Think I will just have to chance it.
Thanks for suggestions Jim A

I had an occurrence of something similar a couple of days ago.

After filling with diesel, my car refused to start. I had been driving around locally (many restarts and wipers and lights operating).
Battery light on and no attempt to turn over.
I did not check voltage or much else as I was more than slightly embarrassed to be blocking the pumps.
I grabbed my lithium battery booster and thankfully my FL2 started at once.

I put it down to me discharging the battery by driving around slowly on the dark, damp day.
No problems since (or in the weeks before) and my battery did not seem to take that much charge when I got home and used charger.

Does yours start if you use a booster, your battery may not be as good as you think it is. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)

Ian,my battery is good. Just over a year old Yuasa.
Never ever needed to jump.
I also give it a charge every 2/3 months to keep it good.
Starts very quickly.

Mine's been doing that for years, including the thing with the battery light.

BUT.... it only happens if i put it in gear too soon after starting the engine. I've gotten into the habit of waiting a few seconds, then into gear and hasn't done it since.

Grue, I know that problem, after some 12 years of driving an automatic FL2, starting, selecting gear, and moving off are in my muscle memory, and I tend to do it too quick.

I think that the OP's problem may be in a dodgy 'Park' switch.

My (Filling Station) starting problem was different this time as I was left with the Battery Light lit, and no response to me pressing the Start Button, until I boosted the battery.
I have no idea of whether I was too quick selecting gear, as I said my (Starting )actions are automatic and not always in my consceous mind. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)
