Insurance on Land/Range Rovers

I am in the process of changing my FL2 for a 69 plate Disco Sport and discovered that the insurance is £654 for a year rather than £357 for my FL2. I was expecting a rise due to the value of the vehicle but not that much but when I looked around the forums I found that due to thefts of Range Rovers and RRsport in and around London some insurers are no longer prepared to insure anything Land Rover or are giving out ridiculous quotes. Has anyone experienced this? 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

Our 2012 Evoque was no different in insurance price to our 07 Freelander 2 even though the value was 13K vs 3K.
That was two years ago.

This year my premium actually went DOWN due to retiring and not using it to commute to work, also reduced annual milage to 4k a year, also who wants to nick a ten year old freelander?? was going to sell it but now thinking of keeping it as its been one if not the best Landie I have had and though not worth much in value its almost priceless to me now ! 2013 FL2 XS.

Very recently changed from a suzuki grand vitara to a freelander 2 and my insurance increased by a couple of hundred pounds that was with the NFU, reason given was theft of land rovers.
However car tax came down, so not all bad news.

Depreciation on new Range Rovers has always been high; in part due to their poor reliability compared to other luxury brands. But despite, it seems , that they are favoured by the criminal fraternity as a status symbol and due to the ease of stealing them (JLR usually come top in that league).

I dont think an Albanian gang boss would be seen dead in a 10 year old Freelander Laughing Jules

But there is no doubt car insurance is rocketing up generally. In part due to the very high cost of repairing cars now, causing many cars to be written off instead of being repaired - I think this is true especially of some BEVs.

Anyway I thought Id search for quotes on the Meerkat site, although Im not renewing till 2024
I paid £198 last time - fully comp, max NCD, 5K miles, both 64 yrs retired, SD&P only, not in London

Now cheapest was £302 - 50% increase !!! Jules

I'd be more concerned about the engine than the insurance. Have you read about the 2.0 engine issues? 2009 Rimini Red SE TD4. Soon to be sold.

yep, thought to be a diesel MHEV battery fire by some people due to the position and ferocity of the initial fire as seen in a phone clip - though yet to be confirmed Jules

Deliberately went for a petrol ingenium. I wouldn't touch a diesel ingenium what with the oil dilution and DPF issues. Might be a bit thirstier but I don't do that many miles these days. Incidentally the diesel DSs are noticeably cheaper and looking at the various ones on sale it looks as if the later models are more likely to be petrol or petrol hybrids so there is a definite switch away from diesel happening. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

We always think of footballers wives and drug dealers when we look at a Range Rover sport. Wind the clock back and the sweeny was always chasing jags and transit vans for the armed robbers. Haha. I guess its just the same as then.

This is on the "Honest John" website this week. A tad on the worrying side.

The average cost of car insurance in the UK has risen to a record £924 in the past three months, according to new figures from Confused.com.

We've had scores of readers contact us to complain about sky rocketing insurance renewals. Indeed, compared to the same period in 2022, the average price of insurance has increased by an eye watering £338.

And with prices up by an average of £148 since June this year - an increase of almost 20% - there's little sign of respite for hard pressed motorists.

The rise is the highest annual recorded increase since the Confused.com car insurance price index, which is based on more than 6 million quotes, began in 2006.

Despite the FCA introducing the General Insurance Pricing Practices in January 2022, in order to ensure fairer pricing, insurance prices appear to be spiralling skyward.

Along with rising inflation rates which have driven up the cost of repairs and maintenance, Confused.com says the rise in sales of electric cars is a factor in the price increase. DAVE.
