2007 Freelander 2 TD4 XS Auto Nazca Sand

windshield wipers stop after some time working

I have a strange problem some time now...
After some continuous work (1+ hours) the wipers stagger for a second and stop at random place on the windshield.
No reaction to the switch then.
I have to switch the engine off and rest the car for some time (20-30 min.)...then the wiper start again...as if something cools down or becomes loose...
Has anyone encountered this problem? Any solution?

No. The relay s fine.
The wipers get stucked once they stop. I can not move them manually in any direction....

I had exactly this about 5 years ago. It was fixed under warranty.

I believe that they changed the wiper motor but I have no paperwork to confirm this. FL2 HSE Auto Galway Green
Evoque SD4 Auto Blue.
FL1 HSE TD4 Manual Black - Gone.
RR Classic V8 EFI - Gone

Lucky it was under warranty...the local shop could not read any error on the computer...
I have to go to the official dealer now and will be charged a fortune....
Does anyone know the exact specification of the relay, so i can try to exchange it before i get "killed" by the bill of the official dealer?

It is getting bizarre ...
The local shop inspection was a failure...
The computer check returned no errors. The mechanical check of the motor and wiper arms axis returned no problem - all work well and smooth.
The relays are fine but since the last visit to the shop, there is no current in the motor socket already..
The only unit not checked it the lever on the steering wheel...
Any ideas what might cause the wipers stop...i am totally a loss...

2013 Freelander 2 TD4 GS Manual Buckingham Blue

I had this on an Audi. Turned out to be the wiper motor failing. It wouldn't show up as a fault code when I tried as the motor worked intermittently. I thought it may be the wiper mechanism seizing up but after removal and cleaning it was fine.
Changed the wiper motor and all has been fine ever since.

Yes. it appeared to be the motor...there was a defect/aging/ of the coil that returned a short circuit and the motor protection shut it off....
changing the motor unit solved the problem...

I am going through the same exact issue right now on my 2011 LR2. Although changing the motor and switch on the steering column didn't resolve my issue. Still battling it to this day. It will work fine for a few minutes after sitting all night then just start stopping at random places, requiring me to restart the car multiple times to hopefully move them into a parked position.

Have you looked at the downloadable Repair and Wiring Diagram Manual.

Have you tried all the functions (when the fault appears) example fast, slow, intermittent, rear wiper (automatic when reversing), washer button, etc?

The physical control of the wipers is via 2 relays R8, R11, and the motor has 2 separate power feeds fast, and slow.

Remember a short on the 'park position signal' will remove the power to the motor.

The 'Wipers and Washers' wiring diagram is worth a look as it shows a large number of wiring connections around the wiper system and control units that may be your problem. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)

Just suffered similar to this on sons VW Polo. It was the wiper mechanism seizing up. Dismantle and grease the rotating spindles that the wiper arms pivot on solves the problem on VWs. May not be the issue for the Freelander but just thought I'd mention it. Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948
