Shocked

Went past a local BP garage and the price differential between diesel and petrol was 29p per litre. Pound dollar exchange has stabilised and Brent Crude is way below 100$ per barrel so who's profiteering. MY 09 GS manual in Lago Grey, Wood Co arm rest and side bumper strips - now sold.

I’m on the Kent/SE London borders and i paid £1.86 fortnight ago, £1.81 this week, which has been about the going rate. Will have to make sure I refuel if I’m planning to visit East Kent Wink

United Kingdom

Just drove back from my Mums - Mojacar Spain.
Diesel was 2.08Euro a litre, at 1.12E to the pound it works out at £1.86 a litre - I always thought it was cheaper in Europe !

Spain was OK, but many service stations in France either had no petrol or no Diesel - some had neither, and it got worse closer to Paris. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her
Replaced by Ewok what a mistake - now a happy Disco Sport owner

There's been an early high demand for heating oil as folk have tried to fill their tanks at summer/autumn prices with the current economic uncertainty. Heating oil comes from the same base oil stock as diesel and so you will always see a bigger price differential between petrol and diesel in autumn/winter vs spring/summer due to that extra demand.

I can't see this accounting for the full uplift, but it's certainly part of the story. Current driveway contents:

Heating oil has come down a little over the past week or so - still about 80% more than a year ago and about 400% more than 2 years ago.
https://www.boilerjuice.com/heating-oil-prices-england/

For many off grid (including me) have been told of a paltry £100 help but no further details as to how it would be paid. Unlike gas and lecky we have to pay up front for oil with suppliers insisting on 500 litre minimum deliveries ergo about £500 a hit up to 4 times a season. MY 09 GS manual in Lago Grey, Wood Co arm rest and side bumper strips - now sold.

Thats a lot of expence ! have you thought about solar panels? I have them with a i boost that heats the hot water though you need an immersion heater and cylinder. also a wood burner would help? what you would save on heating oil would help cover the cost of solar panels? 2013 FL2 XS.

Thank you Rommel - we do have a wood burner which is our primary heat source. Our son was gifted, by his grandfather, about 6 acres of woodland from which he harvests fallen and Ash die back timber so a free supply. May well explore solar panels as our cottage is south facing. That all being said I've just opened the post and have been advised of a £500 winter fuel payment eligible for those born pre 1956 in addition to the £600 off the lecky amortised over 9 months which our supplier is discounting from our monthly bill. 🙂 MY 09 GS manual in Lago Grey, Wood Co arm rest and side bumper strips - now sold.

In answer to your original question: "who is profiteering?"
Consider this;
The wholesale cost of fuel to the Oil company is 43% of the gross price.
Then there is distribution, retail, etc. and eventually 2% profit to the Oil company.
The tax charged is 45% of the gross price.
These numbers are freely available on the WWW.
So it is UK Ltd who is profiteering.
I.E......You and Me.
