I have just seen that he has become a freelander 2 owner. Brought a 10 plate hse for £950, it gives an idea what our one is worth trade.

except his seems to have an unsolvable power steering problem which wont have helped.

Trade values are just a joke at the minute compared to retail, and I cant see it getting any better sadly

Yes he did say if it was a problem free px he would be paying about £1600 for it.

I'm shocked at how fast the Freelander 2 is loosing money, particularly the pre-facelift versions.
I'm going to be selling mine soon, as the EV will be taking its place.

No issues with our Freelander. Wouldn't be caught dead in all the rubbish on sale today. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

I would guess that the £400 a year road tax cuts down the amount of people who would buy a freelander.ours is sorned at the moment while it’s waiting to be fixed, no point giving the government any more money than I have to

Managed to get £2500 trade in for my 2009 TD that was in March.
Thought at the time it was low but prices are tanking now.
I enjoyed owning the car but glad to get rid of it, most unreliable car I have ever owned. Now at the point when I learn something new something old is lost out the other side !

Yes we only do 5 to 6,000 miles a year and had a few problems. It was an old cheaper motor to buy an 09 the same. Nice to drive with up right sitting and tows the caravan. Would not own one if we didn’t have a caravan, probably an estate car of some sort.

Im not selling but out of interested obtained several on-line valuations - all in the range expected for a depreciation log curve giving a 3yr retained value of 70%.

On average its lost £2k per year since new. No other car Ive owned has held its value so well apart from the Series 3.

So as depreciation is usually the biggest cost of car ownership I think the FL2 has been great value (so far) for that type of vehicle. Jules

Don't get me wrong Jules, if they still made a Freelander that was LEZ compliant, I would definitely consider another.
However JLR don't make anything anymore that I would consider.
I don't want fancy gadgets, I don't want a touch screen that handles all of the ancillary controls and I definitely don't want a touch screen that welcome's me when I get in, especially if I'm in a bad mood.
What I wanted was a vehicle that has four wheel drive, reasonably tough, interior that isn't easily damaged and buttons and switches for the ancillary controls so as not to be distracted.

Therefore I took a leap of faith and bought a Dacia Duster 4x4 blue DCI. It does everything I want and returns 63 mpg on average.

Any doubters out there should check the YouTube video where it is up against the new Land rover Defender. Obviously it doesn't win, but for the cost difference it doesn't loose. It completed everything the Defender did, just not quite as easily.

Also check the Romain YouTube channel where it's used in snow and off road hill climbs.

I'm thinking a 4x4 Skoda Superb estate is likely to be my next car. Just turned over 120000 miles in the Freelander so I'm hoping there's a bit of life left in it yet. Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948

Much agreed. However, an i6 is now 900 gpb in road tac every year in my country. And the turbo diesel Freelander are much worse.
Next on the governments list, are ev's For now, they are litterally free of any road tax, but in a few years, they will punish the owners well again, as the ev's are so heavy.
A new 90 Defender with the right equipment is very wanted here, but wayyy too expensive.
Btw. in my humble view, not all new cars are better per definition, than older cars.

For example, I'll drive my Lotus Esprit any day, over something new. I'll keep them for a loooong time, hopefully.

On another note, can you imagine a forum like this for ev's? Tesla's where no one can work on their onw car, so the only thing they can do, is maybe change wheels and add a stick on plastic thingy somewhere? And the most interesting thing they can debate is whether they can make the 200" screen inside the car, talk like Arnold or Pamela? No, thought so.
Ha ha ha, just fell down from my office chair from laughing at ev's. I'll rather use a walking stick and shout at the local politician, who decided to ban cars and motorcycles. Btw. I use my bicycle every day for most things transportation wise.
