As long as its the correct spec for your engine, and you change the oil and filter appropriately then any brand is fine IMO.
AFAIK There is no evidence available to say that any one brand is better than another.
I use S&A. Jules

Don't forget that the original engine (PSA) was designed with an A3/B4 with high HTHS in mind.
That A1/B1 and later A5/B5 low HTHS oil is for the fuel economy crap. And that is an engine killer if the oil is changed too late and/or oil is not of good quality.
And the 15000 miles / 24000 km recommended is way to much in my opinion... See exhaust cams breakdowns, rockers' failures, etc.

I, for one, for several years on, I am using a good 5W40 oil with a quite high HTHS.
Remember the old thread with good advice about oils offered by Yamaha Fan.

I have been using Millers XF Premium Engine Oil C1 5w30 from the off with my car, like their products and decent value as well. It meets the LR spec shop around and get 5 lts for £30 best buy two cans of it as you need 6 lts each oil change so you will have plenty left for the next few oil changes needing only to buy one can next time Smile 2014 Freelander 2 XS TD4
