United Kingdom 2014 Freelander 2 TD4 GS Auto Santorini Black
Engine Battery

Well my 2014 TD4 GS (7 years old) original engine battery let us down whilst out shopping (you remember that thing you used to regular prior to lockdown) just died no prior warning at all (faulty cell)

Anyway had my jump leads with me (ex Boy Scout) and a kind Freelander owner who pulled up gave me a jump start so got home without any further issues.

Ordered new battery from Tayna batteries in Abergele, a F19 Varta Silver Dynamic 85ah battery duly arrived next day (yesterday) as promised great service and good price, fitted it and all good again.

The fitment process is quite straight forward for those of you have haven't done this little job I have detailed below the way I did it.

* Remove battery cover
* Disconnect battery terminals (negative first 10mm)
* Remove air filter housing complete (flat blade screwdriver and torx)
* Remove front of battery box cover (four plastic clips two each side)
* Remove battery vent/breather pipe (on side of battery facing you)
* Remove battery clamp (10mm long bolt located front left hand side of battery facing you)
* Slide old battery forward this makes it much easier to lift out.
* Whilst out check and clean negative earth connection on body easy to do with battery out.
* Refit is a reversal of above (remember negative battery terminal last)
* Reset door mirrors auto fold function (ignition on not engine) hold Left and Right button down together to close then repeat to open)
* Reset auto shut windows function (ignition on not engine) lower down each window in turn hold for few seconds then close hold for a few seconds.)
* Reset date
* Reset clock time

Job done.

Good job & good write up Thumbs Up

I had no problem changing mine (also a 2014) without removing the air box or battery box front - with a Yuasa YBX9115 which is a smidge longer than the F21 and F19.

The Auto does not need a AGM stop/start I presume? 2014 Freelander 2 TD4 Manual Dynamic

@AJ918
does your fl2 my 2014 td4 gs have stop/start?
If it is I think Varta f21 should be the right battery.

My fl2 is my2013 , original was varta f21 and I fitted a new varta f21 in January 2020 also from Tayna.

On my 2008 model the battery box front does come off for access,
and at my age I need all the advantage I can get. Sad

Hi Paxman no it is not fitted start/stop so F19 is the correct one for this model, I doubled checked with Varta direct before purchase. Dave47 I am with you on that why struggle.

Yes you're right if it doesn't have start/stop then it's varta f19.
