United Kingdom 2009 Freelander 2 TD4 SE Manual Rimini Red

Most PSA parts are a direct fit for the same part on the Freelander 2. Sure its used in the Freel 2, but the engine is a PSA DW12, and so most parts from DW12 equipped vehicles are the same.
The engine was also used by Ford, but only in 2 vehicles, the 2.2 Galaxy, and 2.2 Mondeo, and only for a few years.

Citroën, Peugeot and Jaguar XF are more common that the Fords, so are the best source of parts. 2009 Rimini Red SE TD4. Soon to be sold.
Hyundai Ioniq 5 Ultimate on order.
Gone. 2006 Tonga Green i6 HSE.

Hi Chips. Thanks for the input but I really don't like parts from breakers. Especially something to do with the electronics. I have purchased things like steering knuckles but they are just chunks of metal and you can see if anything is wrong. Very Happy Now at the point when I learn something new something old is lost out the other side !

Having had a car (Triumph Dolomite Sprint) that during my longish ownership went from 'Dealer 2nd hand' all the way through to 'Classic Car', I hoped that I could follow a similar path with my FL2.

I found that after the first 10 years or so, parts started to dry up from the dealers but many cars started to be scrapped and lots of cheap 2nd hand parts became available.
Then over the next few years, the Dolomite became rarer and parts started to become dearer and harder to find.
Specialist parts suppliers (like Rimmer Bros) then became very important and useful, but gradually the bits that went wrong regularly on the car (brake master cylinder?) became harder and harder to source, although if there was enough demand someone (including the Owners Club) would get a copied part made and offer it for sale.

Then gradually the Dolomite got rarer and rarer, and more expensive to keep going safely. Also trusted Specialist Repairers, who actually knew how to fix it, were then difficult to find.

The complexity of the FL2 seems to rule out the 'Scrap Yard' maintenance so I think that it may jump to the last stage and be expensive to keep it going as 'Classic'.

PS Unlike the Dolomite, I no longer even carry a tool kit in my FL2, not only is it very much more reliable, but I'm not sure that I could fix it on the side of the road.

It seems that the FL2 to is now on it's way to becoming a classic.

My 2014 FL2 Metro has been in the Dealers (under an Extended Warranty) since the 8th Jan for a failed rear differential and is presently awaiting a set of seals (3 week delivery wait) to allow the Diff to be rebuilt. (As I understand it)

My Claim on the LR Extended Warranty has not been smooth and has caused me to email the JLR Chief Exec to point out that the Warranty is sold under the Land Rover brand.
JLR Executive Office are now involved and I have someone appointed to chase my various concerns and things are getting better and at least I appear to be kept in touch with state of play, and I have now a suitable hire car.

When I get my much missed FL2 back, I will give a fuller report of what went wrong (and right) from the placing of my original Breakdown Call to (hopefully) getting back in the driving seat of my FL2. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)

Coming from Mars?!

Quicker to get stuff from UK to Australia (Tuesday to Friday).

But to be fair, within Sydney a good portion of the population could go through a cycle before delivery! Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

Should have just gone straight to Bell Engineering - at least they know what they're doing.
Doubtless the Land Rover repair will fail in the future.

As my Freelander was bought while still under the LR Warranty, and had an additional Extended Warranty,
I decided to run the Extended Warranty on into it's 10th Year. This was because the two of us have reached the age where mobility is important and we need a seamless car owning experience.
Unfortunately gone are the days when I could strip and clean a carburetor on the roadside on my way to work, or indeed manoeuvre myself into positions around and under the car, so it is more expensive to run a car.
The Extended Warranty should have worked, but Database and Communication problems have spoiled the experience.
The Bell Engineering solution is out of reach for me. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)

It is interesting if you keep a car for a longer time. I had a Peugeot 504 for 18 years (25 years old in total).

Things like the fuel filter. Originally the filter membrane could be replaced. In later years you had to buy the whole moulded filter at a lot more expense.

Basically what the manufacturers do. I need a 5 cent part to fix X problem. Yes sir... here is "3/4 of the car" to replace the part! Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

My twin boys (aged 38!) have three Porsche 911s between them. One is a 1996 N reg aircooled 993 model which I took into the Porsche dealers last week for a service. Whilst talking to the service manager he said that Porsche now class anything over 10 years old as a classic and they have spares going back decades in store. They even have a regular publication about classic spares called Originale which Porsche send out to people on the classic register. I suppose that there is a large market for cars like this which command serious money if well looked after and the dealers have people who know how work on them.
I guess that original Defenders are the only JLR cars apart from early Jaguars which are anywhere near this sort of market but JLR are not interested and I doubt if their dealers would know what to do with anything that's not in current production. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

I have to say that I have never noticed anybody young driving a freelander.
