United Kingdom 2012 Freelander 2 TD4 GS Auto Orkney Grey

Bit of a difference in information here. FL2 handbook says Land Rover recommend Castrol. I have read other threads that Magnatec 5W-30 A1 is the correct oil for the TD4 with DPF. The Castrol oil guide in B & Q yesterday says no suitable oil for any FL2 diesel beyond 2009. Anyone got any thoughts? That said though, just coming up to 12 months service next week and 12k miles this year and it hasn't needed any addition of oil. No 'oil service due' indication either.
Long may that last. 12MY 61plate FL2 TD4 auto GS Orkney Grey Roof spoiler full size spare

England 2011 Freelander 2 TD4 XS Manual Baltic Blue

A 2012 Freelander 2 with DPF needs a 5W-30 ACEA C1 oil or one that meets Ford 934B specification. LR Dealers tend to use Castrol Magnatec Professional oil which is not usually available to the public.

That's pretty much it (although it should be the Ford 934B spec rather than just a C1).

Land Rover recommend Castrol, because of a deal between the two companies. It's a pretty common thing, Castrol have the same with Ford and BMW, Merc and Mobil is another, Ferrari and Shell is a well known one. As long as the oil is Ford 934B approved, there is no issue in using it, here are the ones that we have.

The product used in the dealerships from Castrol is not available via normal retail suppliers.

United Kingdom 2012 Freelander 2 TD4 GS Auto Orkney Grey

Thanks for the information. Much appreciated. Fortunately I only keep it for top up and that hasn't been needed this year. I will make sure I have the correct oil though. 12MY 61plate FL2 TD4 auto GS Orkney Grey Roof spoiler full size spare
