InControl Apps finally dropped

I note that JLR have finally killed off InControl for 20MY L494, which presumably will filter down to all other models within the existing portfolio.

Frankly, I'm amazed that it has taken this long to make a statement, given that the lovers tiff with Bosch (App developers) was well over a year ago. Now that Apple CarPlay/Android Auto has been unlocked for all the new units, there doesn't seem much point in continuing with InControl, as it will never be as good as the aforementioned.

My brother has this InControl business on his L550 and it has never worked properly from the off....every time Apple update their iOS, the system falls over. It's never been right, and thankfully, finally now, they can concentrate on things that they do well, whilst leaving Android/Apple to do what they are equally good at.

It’s been rubbish since day one, useless apps.

Apple CarPlay much better, use it all the time.

My wife’s Mokka came with both Apple car play & Android auto as standard, unlike the rip off price Land Rover charge for it. Apple car play is brilliant, wish my Freelander had it. Do it now ! Your a long time dead !!

My wife's cheap little Corsa has it as standard...frankly it's embarrassing that LR are even thinking about charging for it!

I wonder if the chap in Australia (stuartc?) that seems to know how to retro-fit all sorts knows how to crack this....I know that there are conversion kits available on eBay, but these existing units MUST be able to support CarPlay, surely? Be an interesting mod if it can be done, and probably all that you will ever need!

£200 ain’t too bad Volvo were charging £300. Mine was activated free of charge due to incontrol apps issues Wink Whistle 21MY Defender 90 S 3.0 D200

Both Lr & Volvo are rip off merchants, Vauxhall Mokka brand new cost £20kish as I said has Apple car play & Android car play as standard.. all you do is go into settings and tick what you want to use . Buy a £50k Land Rover and they rip you off for another £200 Do it now ! Your a long time dead !!

Have to agree with Purplemadboy, when you are spending what new LR models currently cost these days, you would not expect a further £200 surcharge to tick a box on (presumably) Pathfinder to allow CarPlay/AndroidAuto...if it's already there in the background, then it should be unlocked as standard. Greedy dealers methinks!

They will charge you £243 inc VAT if you go in and ask your dealer to activate it.

It’s definitely a rip off no doubt about it. 21MY Defender 90 S 3.0 D200

Just out of interest j77, what does the Land Rover tile do (bottom left of your screen grab) when you press it? Does that open up InControl? Or something totally different?

Ha ha ha, I see....I did wonder! Somebody on here or other likened the graphics to that of an Atari back in the early 80's......can't say that I disagree with that assertion! Laughing
