2013 Freelander 2 power loss in traffic

Hi,

I’ve got a 2013 model Freelander and I love it.

Recently, particularly when in traffic jams, I’ve experienced a loss of power when trying to accelerate. It feels
Sluggish and unresponsive and I have ride the clutch to get her moving again.

Tonight i’ve Just jumped in the vehicle and the engine was ‘flat’ as if the turbo wasn’t operating.
There are no symptoms I can describe, visually or audibly, it just feels like it’s flagging.
When I Jumped on the motorway, however, suddenly the Landy came back to life?

Funnily enough, I did a long journey last week and I was thinking (dangerously it seems) just how sprightly
And eager the engine felt?

This is a 150bhp model which I added a ‘Superchips’ 180bhp upgrade to a couple of years ago.

If anyone out there has experienced anything like this with their Freelander 2, i’d be very grateful of a heads up.

I’ve read a on other forums that some people have suggested the problem could indicate it could be the MAF?
Thanks

I would try and get someone local to plug in a diagnostic tester see if it throws up any fault codes, that may help find the cause of your issues. Then post the results on here

Agree with Bobster it could be any number of things

Worth checking when you "know" the fuel filter was last changed. The LR schedule is every two years, but I suspect it is often omitted by garages from the service as it is a bit fiddly to do A blocked fuel filter would give the symptons you describe.

I have view that 90% of Freelander problems can be fixed by charging/replacing the battery and changing the fuel filter Rolling with laughter

Yes, that's what I was thinking. I've checked back through the vehicle's history and noticed that
it doesn't appear to have had the fuel filter changed. So at 38k miles I'm going to swap that in
the first instance and see if that cures it.
Better to eliminate the simple stuff first I guess. When driving it yesterday, it did have the 'feel' of
fuel starvation, so i'll try that and report back.
Cheers

When I first got my freelander within a few weeks it went into limp mode with associated engine amber warning light RAC dropped the fuel filter and it cleared. New fuel filter fitted and no issues since. I was told it is imperative that you fit a genuine Land Rover fuel filter (which I had done) Good luck

A couple of years ago I started to notice an occasional misfire and a few times there was no power for a few seconds when I pressed the throttle and once it stalled soon after starting when I went to move off. So I was starting to think about fuel filters, air filters, turbo hoses, MAF sensor, crankshaft sensor etc etc......even tried the expensive diesel for a while

Car had always been serviced at a main dealer but was due a service so had it done by local non LR Indy. I free issued a full set of genuine filters even though the fuel filter was not due according to schedule. No problems ever since. Makes me wonder whether Main Dealer has cut corners when servicing and not renewed filters to schedule

Also avoid supermarket fuel - especially Morrisons who add bio s**t to theirs - JLR do not recommend bio fuel in their diesel engines No Longer the owner of a 2013MY Fuji White GS

"Fiat Lux" a philosophy not a car

As above, although more recently have started using Shell, as my local BP has become extortionate.

I get sick and tired of the same old supermarket spokesman saying "our fuel is exactly the same as the major players" - whilst there may be an element of truth in that, they don't add anything to the lorries tanks it at dispatch, and they certainly don't maintain their underground tanks to anywhere NEAR the standards of Shell/Esso/BP.

To the OP - try a double dose of Millers EcoMax Diesel additive....if you have shiit in your tank it will not cure it, but will thin out anything that might be lodged in your fuel filter return line.
