OK.....second day of ownership, now 300 miles from dealer (used).

Drove home fine yesterday, stopped once for fuel, once for pee and grub and both times no issues....but

This morning got in, fob in slot foot on brake pressed button and nothing, lights on dash seem OK, nav working, but not a glimmer from starter, nothing at all.

Jiggled brake pedal just in case there is a swithc not contacting possibly, in and out with both fobs, several tim es tried but the same, nothing from the starter at all.

One thing I have noticed is the alarm light when fob and button pressed goes on for about 3-4 seconds solid, then goes out and in the tacho info panel a warning triangle with a circle and arrow shows for about 2 seconds (it looks like a stop/start warning but not got that on this car obviously).

I am stumped......nothing in the manual about the signs in the tacho warning panel which is a bit odd but then it is a LR

Have you tried jiggling the gearlever to check that it is in park properly? If not that then possibly a starter fault. The solenoid can be problematic but a repair kit is available from the likes of Ebay. Good luck!

Yes, in and out of park just to be sure, on and off brake pedal......just to be sure, unclamped and reclamp battery leads.....just to be sure, just now put it on trickle charge for tomorrow morning.....just to be sure, only thing I can think of next is the extra “earth lead” I have read about here.

If all fails I have my local LR Specialist coming next week sometime to throw a diagnostic on it...... this, thought I had finished fiddling with old cars  Regards

do you have two keys? if so try the other one.
when you press the starter button are you keeping it pressed down or just pressing and letting go? Common sense isn't very common.

I have two keys and the result is the same with both, following the normal start procedure of briefly pushing the button and letting go to start......but I did try holding the button for a second or so also, still no go. Regards

What has the dealer that you purchased the vehicle from said?

I rang him yesterday an explained and he said get a local garage to come out and check the vehicle and he will reimburse any costs.

Unfortunately my local LR Specialist cannot do a "home visit" until sometime next week, which is understandable as they are always busy, and this is our "long distance car" so not sweating just yet, just a bit puzzled and peeved.

The used dealer is over 300 miles away so I am not expecting him to pop along, one of the perils of wanting a particular vehicle in a rare configuration. Regards

OK....had the battery on charge all night and this morning the “intelligent” charger indicated a battery fault, just tried my other battery charger for a few hours and that also indicates a fault, the battery reads 12.5 volts no load which I reckon is much too low, I have decided to fit a new battery.....Exide 096 Premium (non stop start/AGM), off to collect it now.

FL2 do seem to be very sensitive to battery voltage drops, and your right that 12.5 is low

lets not forget that its 13 years since the FL2 hit the showrooms, some early cars could still be on the same battery from new, some could be on their 2nd. Either way those batteries need changing for new.

Indeed, well it is a genuine JLR battery, so either original or genuine replacement, but just checked with headlamps and lights on and on load reads now 12.2 volts, which I don’t consider too bad under a bit of load......so what I plan to do is for now keep charging the battery and fit the extra earth lead mod first (if I can find one at the local chandlery, well no car spares around here!).
If all goes soft fruit shaped I can still go and get the battery tomorrow I guess. Regards

Tried connecting my light aircraft emergency starter jump battery and it had no effect at all, also tried a jump lead from the neg terminal to a good clean bolt on the engine (to simulate the earth lead mod) but that had no effect either, I am getting to the end of my DIY solutions here, looks like I may well have to wait for my local LR Specialist to pop along sometime next week, damnit I hate being defeated by a (VERY) inanimate object  Regards

No one seems to have mentioned the steering lock.
Can you hear this unlock when you insert the key into its dock?
If not try wiggling the steering wheel whilst inserting the key.
A search on here would reveal problems others have had.

When I insert the fob I can here something in the region of the fob make a noise, whether its the steering lock I have no idea, but will go and try right now, cheers. Regards
