Hope someone can advise me what battery I need for my freelander 2.

I have a 2014 SD4 HSE automatic Freelander 2, its 7 years old & I have noticed once or twice the radio shutting down as the battery is low according to the led display. Not been too bothered about that but in the last couple of weeks I cant get my door open when stopping the car, this is intermittent problem.

I was looking on here to find out how to change the door mechanism when I came across posts saying that if the battery is no longer strong enough this could affect the doors unlocking when shutting off the engine.

I have decided to change the battery & fit the earth strap like I did on my previous Freelander 2 but upon exposing it (taking the cover off) I find its a MONPART battery, not sure if this is the O/M type. Its an EFB battery with a little window at the centre showing green (green means good from what I found out on the web) its only 70ah & given all the electric heated seats/windscreen heater/ sunroof/heated mirrors I am not sure if this is the correct battery.

My 2007 had a 75ah battery fitted which I upgraded to an 80ah when I replaced it.

My Freelander does not have start/stop as its automatic, I dont know what battery I need, an AGM I read is for start stop & fitting one of those could be problematic with the ECU & what my cars charging system does, I am not sure if thats the same for the EFB battery too.

I want to put the best & correct battery I can on it & certainly don't want a cheap battery, I fitted a Varta F18 80ah (I think it was) on my 2007 car as Varta 75ah was fitted to it when I came to change it, I had no problems at all with it but if my 2014 has a different set up regarding charging/ECU etc I dont want to fit that either if its supposed to be an EFB or another type.

Hope someone can advise, maybe take a look at their 2014 car & tell me whats fitted as standard originally by Land Rover.

I was just going to fit the F18 on this car until I saw the EFB battery but now I don't know what I need. I also noticed that the long bolt & metal bracket that holds the battery were just laid in the tray as the current battery will not move over enough to get the bolt/bracket in to secure it as the base lip of the battery is too high to fit under the plastic trim that secures it. 2014 Freelander 2 HSE Orkney Grey. The original factory fit battery was a bog standard lead acid battery as per picture below which I took when it died and needed replacing…

I currently have a YBX5110 Yuasa Silver High Performance Car Battery 85Ah. Currently £80 plus delivery from Tayna, it fits perfectly

Before that I had a F19 Varta Silver Dynamic Car Battery 85Ah. I only changed that one as I had the traction control fault that I now know wasn’t caused by the battery (which is in fact, still in very good condition and in reserve). That also fits perfectly.

When the time comes, I'd buy either again for my FL2.

Varta F19 would sort you out and it’s dependable but there are other choices that would also do.

I know this might sound mad but I'd go Halfords and get the best battery they have for your spec.

They have a no-quibble 5 year guarantee for the premium ones. My last Rangie p38 V8 but one used to eat batteries.

I think I had three in one year - all on guarantee.

Talking of batteries, my 2012 auto has an Avon battery, (never heard of them) and stamped on the front/side edge is this.

Never heard my FL2 turn over as quick as it does now, I reset the windows as well and I swear they moved up and down quicker

Sadly my arthritic hands and wrists could NOT lift the old battery out, I had to ask Bluto the brute next door. I believe the weight is 3 stone !

The Varta F18 or F19 are both the same output @ 85ah, wonder why they are both the same like that. The F19 is just slightly taller at 190 mm against the F18 @ 175 mm.

I believe the factory fit original was 190mm high - I’d have bought my F19 based on it matching the existing battery dimension wise.

Concur with Eyesix - for the sake of a few quid let someone else take the strain and in addition you won't need a hernia repair job.  MY 09 GS manual in Lago Grey, Wood Co arm rest and side bumper strips - now sold.

Agreed, had them deliver and fit my last battery. For whatever it cost it was worthwhile - it was very cold and wet, took him about 15 mins

F18 from Tayna or Battery Megastore will be fine - and less than£100 delivered with 5 year warranty.

F18 is just a little easier to fit as it has a smaller case but with identical performance. FL2 SD4 XS 2013 Orkney Grey
