Not really surprised if that happens. We all think the LR brand to be good but there lots of people who think they are overpriced for what they are and let's face it, some of the competition has improved greatly.

There are lots of smart SUV's out there now so lots of competition for this market sector.  MY2014 SD4 XS

Used to be British owned and British built.....Now it’s British built for the time being.

Sad times in a way I do miss the Rover Group days. When Rover used to replace faulty parts with brand new faulty parts and it was fingers crossed Laughing

Tata have done well for JLR! Yes the prices have risen ... But there’s still something about the Green Oval Whistle MY14 Kahn Converted Dynamic - Fuji White Ebony/Pimento Interior

I predicted at the back end of last year that TATA would split the brand, flog Land Rover and retain Jaguar, as it's making profit, and well ahead in electrification. That prophecy appears to be coming true.

I'm genuinely sad to see Land Rover falling back into the bad old ways. Both Bloomberg and the Economic Times both blame Management "hubris" for the problems, and looking at Speth/McGovern's arrogance speaks volumes about that statement.

Terrible shame if it goes down the kermit yet again....(Maggie wouldn't have let it happen, that's for sure!)

Oh I agree, I had a Discovery 2 V8 and what a motor, but I think the freely is a much better motor and it certainly tows better even though there is no low range, let's face it, how many of us really used it.

I dare say we will be having the same conversation in a few years about whoever buys (if that is the case) LR and their latest offering, trying to please the 2 markets, the true off roader wanting a rugged go anywhere motor with a few creature comforts and the SUV market wanting a sportier all rounder for caravanning or horse boxes etc.

hey hum.  MY2014 SD4 XS

How I read the two reports on the supplied links, the sudden loss is as a result of a financial correction.

Like lots of firms these days JLR has been loaded up with debt, partly to pay for all the development they have carried out on the present products.
They have been wrong footed by a few political decisions outside their control, to do with electrification timetable, international tariff changes, and they need to change direction.

It is expected that they will be running at an annual loss for at least a couple of years, and so need to find some extra money.

Therefore they are likely to sell a minority share, preferably to a larger car maker with whom they can share parts.

I don't think that it's the end of JLR, but I do wonder if the new engine, and some of the new chassis, plants are in danger. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)

In about eight years time one will still see the Land Rover logo on toys, bikes, clothes, footwear, watches and jewelry but not on motorised vehicles. Everyone can spread it - Anyone can catch it. Stay home - the life you save can be your own!

..... they did that with the .........vehicle we all love to drive ........ FoMoCo

I don't, for a moment, think JLR or LR will go down.
When your company makes a loss ......... you write down everything and 'chuck in the kitchen sink'.
JLR are still changing ...... its just taking a little longer.

Joking aside Tesla is in a worse state than JLR, their share price is plunging. 21MY Defender 90 S 3.0 D200

I think Hyundai/Kia would be a good match (like an article I read somewhere recently) and having owned one or other of the brands (a Kia Rio CRDi now a Hyundai i30 CRDi) for a number of years I can vouch that they are well put together. Andrew
