Seems the right idea to apply a penalty for not buying British. I'd opt for it to be 20% though. Everyone can spread it - Anyone can catch it. Stay home - the life you save can be your own!

Did the Germans not make plans for amphibious landings in England in 1940 ? Everyone can spread it - Anyone can catch it. Stay home - the life you save can be your own!

According the BBC

"The UK is one of Porsche's biggest markets. The company sold 256,000 cars worldwide last year, with more than 12,500 in Britain."

But that's less than 5% - not so large a market when you look at it that way. Jules

The pound is already way down on what it was before the referendum, so importers' profits are squeezed. If the government really cocks this up the pound will plummet further - I think we'll see rises of more than 10%, and that's in addition to any import duty we may decide to impose.
Of course this should work the other way - Nissan needn't worry about export duty, because their cars will be a fair bit cheaper anyway. Land Rover - not sure. They import a lot of parts, and many JLR cars are now to be made in Austria and Slovakia. What will really hit the British car makers though is if parts are held up at the ports. Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone
300TDi Disco (bought new - terrible car) sent back after 18 months
Freelander 1 Estate - leased, given back at end of lease
200TDi Disco (bought from a mate with 100,000 on the clock) - Gone
Disco 2 TD5 - sold and exported to France
FR2 TD4 GS - Gone
FR2 SD4 HSE - Now changed for a DS
New model ex-demo Evoque S 180 in white
Unable to order a new DS, so gave up. Now have a Volvo S90 Recharge.

I’ll be pleased to see a few less predictable German cars making our streets look indistinguishable from any other Kosta Coffee and McDonalds infested high street in any other country. But, as we travel back to an idealised world of black and white, Dixon of Dock Green and Green Shield Stamps, we might find that we no longer have the industry there to give us the choices we’ve got used to. It’s not as if we can simply go and order a new Rover, or a Triumph, or a Lotus Esprit instead of a generic German offering Sad

Of course arch Brexiteer and Britain's richest man Jim Ratcliffe is aiming to launch Projekt Grenadier next year. But wait a moment - he's moving to Monaco for tax reasons and the research is being done in Germany. I wonder where it will be manufactured...? Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone

Thats why I hate Thatcher for destroying British industry. Margaret, Dennis and son Mark Thatcher did alright though.

Dennis was chairman of Coalite, Coalite owned most of the Falklands when we went to war there.

and son Mark was the proxy family member for the big payout from the Saudis

Yorky, the people who bought their council houses, under Thatcher, are selling them at a huge profit. Thumbs Up

Why do you think the over 55's are being told to release equity from their homes ?

So the same slick younger Tory robbing bastards in the City can make even more money, why on earth would any sane person go down that route ? FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

Sadly not a lot of choice in the "Made in Britain" catalogue these days.

The UK's most popular the car , the Fiesta, is made in Cologne - its a good little car too.
(And somewhere in Spain I believe) Jules

I have to agree with Bob, I think that the financial wise guys are coming for the money that has been saved by the 'baby boom' generation. It will be seen as the next big scandal in a few years time. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)
