Ha !

Is that jealousy Martin Shocked

Shame on you... and you live sooo close to the area too.

Will report back what I am allowed to say. If there is an NDA then I will honour it of course. Will take the D70 just in case.

I'm guessing the official photos and info will be announced at the same time or very close to the What Car visit.

OK... I will be quick and a bit random here...

Well here are some words that express what I saw. You've seen the leaked brochure so what I say is not going to be a spoiler at all for LR.

We were briefed by no other than uber design God Geoff Upex. It was an honour to meet him and personally discuss the look, background and philosophy behind the D3 and Freelander 2. We were also treated to the interior designer being there (embarrassingly I have forgotten his name - sorry chap).

They both spent time (over 2 hours) listening and talking with us all. Hats off to them for this !

So the words... Solid, Grown Up, Sophisticated. It has a stance that moves - the current one in comparison just sits there. The current one parked nest to it instantly looked very dated. There are hints of RRS, D3 and Freelander in the design. It looks bloody good.

Made the BMW X3 they had parked behind it look like a real dogs dinner... it looked absolutely like a dogs dinner. Freelander 2 looked the dogs dangly bits in comparison. Solid not prissy.

Inside its the same mix. You feel cocooned (like in RRS) yet there is enough room around you from waist upwards to give you a feeling of space (D3). Design influences come together very well. Again lending an air of sophistication. Build quality will be way ahead of the current one. With some very good quality materials and surfaces used.

Rear leg room and passenger space much improved... three abreast should be no problem even for adults.

Boot space is much much better. Deeper and I think slightly wider too. Tail gate lifts to a decent height - no banged heads.

So the toys are all there as you would expect in a modern vehicle. Again you've seen the leaked interior and dash shots.

TR has all modes except Rock Crawl. No low box or air suspension - no surprise at this end of the market.

This LR is not hard core off road, neither was the last version. It will out perform the competition I am sure of that. Segment leader and good enough for the kind of customer buying Freelander ?? OH YES.

As for engines... well I'm not saying what I was told but they are impressive.

Anyone that has followed a camo prototype will conform this.

So enough apart from saying a huge thanks to LR for this opportunity.

Sorry for the lack of spoilers but I really don't want to divulge what you will all know very soon.

cheers

Very Happy

Cool!

Thanks for the update Simon. I can't wait to see one of these in the metal. Hopefully they'll be previewed at the upcoming motor show in London.

I know you can't say or be specific about anything - but can we look forward to any... umm... 'surprises' in terms of kit/equipment/features for the new FL2?

Wink

Yes for me this is an important issue.

Is it inside the boot (bad) or under the rear of the car (better)?
Is it a full size spare or some dinky space saver?
Is there actually a spare at all?

Yup - I remember reading somewhere it's under the rear, (not in the boot). Just like on my current Zafira.

Seeing as its based on a Focus, I would expect it to be in the boot well. Though I wouyld like to be wrong and find it external. Nothing worse than getting a puncture with a boot ful of gear and having to unload it on the hard shoulder Sad

Simon, are you sure you're Joe Public and not a marketing man from LR trying to drum up some excitement? Wink

Hah hah, of course he is Joe public or Joemax! He is a fellow D3 owner and most definately not a LR PR man. The boot size is the biggest concern for me, it needs to be deeper and wider.
