Servicing Prices

Some of us who have used LR dealers in the past have been "surprised" at the cost of servicing eg my DS has recently had it's first official service at 21,000 miles (no air filter, pollen filter or fuel filter change) and I was lucky to get away with £470. The next one will hurt. Fortunately I do my own intermediate oil/filter change as this doesn't need to be recorded for warranty purposes.

Now I have just taken the wife's MG3 in for it's first service at the MG dealership, which is a glorified oil change, they still clean the car inside and out, there is coffee but from paper cups not china with a saucer, but no cakes.
The cost £100.66 including VAT.

That is one very expensive piece of cake.

Put in the Off Topic section as MGs might not be seen by some as topics fit for discussion Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her

Ah Older MG were British Leyland - basic engineering typical of the time.

New MG as has been pointed out are built in China by Shanghai automotive - actually still basic engineering by todays standards, ie external clutch slave cylinders - engine bays big enough to see the floor most of the way around the engine, old fashioned hydraulic steering, bulbs rather than LEDs.

The idea is run it for 8 years (20k miles) and throw it away, because I will retire about then and we can hopefully use the DS.

Point is for what is basically an oil change there was a massive difference in cost. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her

A friend of mine had an MG B GT with wire wheels and a huge wing nut on each hub. He had just driven cross country about 100 miles and asked me for advice on a noise from the back that occurred at times especially when he pulled away so I suggested that I walk along and listen as he pulls away. It was immediately obvious that the wing nut started rotating before the wheel did and that the spline on the wheel/hub had failed as the nut was loose. New half shaft and wheel required but lucky that the nut hadn't come off earlier. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

Had a MGB GT back in the 70's (proper one with chrome bumpers) got rid when the sills rusted out. Strange battery set up with 2 x 6volt batteries in series under the rear dickey seat . 95 hp and 0 - 60 in c11 seconds really took your breathe away Cool l MY 09 GS manual in Lago Grey, Wood Co arm rest and side bumper strips - now sold.
