1. Yes, you are wrong. Anybody with decent diagnostic gear can do it.
2. Car configuration file. (Now Sold). 2008 Freelander 2 (Nazca Sand) SE TD4 Auto. Statutory write off & on WOVR for hail damage but still road legal.

The picture was the screen on my iPad showing the output from a GAP Diagnostics IID Tool BT, an expensive bit of kit and there are probably cheaper devices out there with similar functionality. Worms, I doubt you'd get a cheaper option than that capable of CCF edit, except for maybe a cracked SDD & Mongoose cable. Whether I'd be prepared to try one of those, I doubt it!
I use a Nanocom Evo & it does all I need but is now a lot dearer than the GAP tool!

Badger, that is interesting! I think when I was looking last year, the Nanocom was a bit cheaper than the GAP, but I went with the GAP partly because they are site sponsors on here. I really like the functionality and the fact that I can run it all through my iPhone and email the fault codes to my inbox, so that I have a permanent record before clearing them.

The first thing I did with it was to change the headlight setting to DRL and that alone probably saved me a quarter of the cost of the Tool...or twice the value of the tool if I had believed the dealer when they told me that they would need to change the headlights for me to achieve it! I installed the same DRL / fog lamps in my 2008 model, easy plug and play solution with limited cabling effort. Do use these as cornering lights, too. This function is only available when the main lights are switched on.

I can recommend the OSRAM for easy conversion to DRL.

Ok, thanks to all for your advise and comments. Now to throw something else into the mix. How about sourcing some late model headlights with the drl,s installed. Because i presume you would need another feed for the drl,s as the exsisting plug would not i presume have one. If you do need another feed via the mutiplug then is there an adaptor to convert old multi to new headlight.

I don't know the details but one thing to be aware of is that the post 2013 FL2s have a different wiring system (same as the Evoque) so it may not be as easy as you might think to put later light clusters on. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

There is an adaptor loom available on Ebay that enables you to fit the newer style lights that have DRL`s fitted but it isn`t cheap at £245 or so! Add in the cost of the lights and getting them enabled and you are probably looking at upwards of £700 or so. If you fit the standard halogen type lights then that is probably a backward step as the only have a single bulb with a shutter providing main/dipped beam and they are not that bright and have issues with blowing bulbs due to heat build up. To fit xenon lights and remain 110% legal then they should have auto levelling and headlight washers. If you have an HSE then you already have the washers and the lights if fitted will still adjust using the little adjuster wheel so in the real world you are unlikely to have any issues. It all comes down to how much you want to spend I suppose! G Thumbs Up ood luck!

Update. Bought a pair of led foglamps from Aliexpress. Outer ring compises a halo drl which you wire seperatlely. Problem i am finding is when i connect the yellow wire from the controller to either the side or headlight wires the drl does not dim. If i connect the yellow directly to battery pos then they do. Do you think this is something to do with the canbus system.

Problem solved thanks to the guy who wired my tow bar electrics. These drl,s will only dim through the controller if you fit a relay. Relay wired pos and neg and the other two connections are one to the drl dimming wire and one to the side or headlamp wiring. Although this works fine i intend to fit an alternative controller to turn drl,s off totally.

new update. Fitted the new controller today. Wired through ignition feed. Piggy backed off the front cigar socket as this is only one out of all the other cigar lighter sockets with ignition. works fine but lamps would not shut down when controller pos/neg wired directly to battery. Interesting?.
