New Range Rover Evoque

Being a bit bigger might tempt over some FL2 owners in due course. Wonder what the starting price will be Whistle

its not until you scroll down that page and see all the RR range lined up together in the same colour that you realise how generic they all look, just in different sizes.

Recycling the the old Hello Evoque slogan.

Glasgow is the only event in Scotland. I think I’ll leave it, been there, done it. 21MY Defender 90 S 3.0 D200

Leaked images

Very mini Velar, not sure I like the gear shifter, looks out of place to me.

I wish that they would put the Sat Nav / Infotainment Screen at the same height as the Driver's Instrument Screen.

I do not like moving my eyes too far from the road, as you look for imaginary displayed button on screen, or for that matter at the Sat Nav. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)

Very easy system to use, my only criticism is there’s no feedback when a button is pressed.

My Velar has the digital dash, so a full map can be displayed with sat nav guidance.

What’s more, if different drivers each have their own key fob, the Evoque can use this to recognise them, learn their preferences and ensure their usual climate control, infotainment and seat settings are ready as soon as they get behind the wheel. It will even remember commonly dialled phone numbers for different times and days of the week.

This feature should provide a bit of amusement. I had similar set up in my Signum several years ago, it took me quite a while to discover what was controlling the odd knee cap knocking positions of my seat. I eventually realised it was happening mainly when my wife (as passenger) opened the car.

A large touchscreen automatically hinges forward when you start the Evoque’s engine, placing menus for the sat-nav, stereo and phone settings within easy reach. Meanwhile, the whole lower centre console is also touch-sensitive, being used to operate secondary systems such as the climate control and off-road driving modes.

The downside of low-mounted touch panels of this sort is that they tend to be distracting to use while you’re driving, because they force you to take your eyes off the road to find the correct area to press. However, Land Rover also provides two rotary dials that change function depending on the menu selected and can be found by feel alone.

A third digital display, which replaces traditional instruments such as the speedo and rev counter and lets the driver customise the layout, completes the high-tech look.

I haven’t found the duo system any more distracting than trying to find a particular button in amongst a sea of them on a conventional setup.

Finger prints are a bit of a pain though, they’re everywhere, and as quite as it’s cleaned they’re back. 21MY Defender 90 S 3.0 D200

Memory seats are fun. A friend had them in his car, I retaught it to be in as close and as possible. This was in the days of having to press a button to select the required memory, so he was sat there with the seat getting closer to the wheel wondering what happened. Incidentally I think Audi have gone one step further and also set the air on to the drivers preferred settings. I know my 06 A4 cabriolet would alter the settings if he roof was lowered to the last roof off setting.

Much prefer this over the new Evoque

Though the starting price of £86k means I’ll need to sell more than a kidney, also that car features the £6k optional Byron Blue satin paint job. 21MY Defender 90 S 3.0 D200
