1970s good & bad points growing up

Growing up in the 1970s, Australian bias, but a good laugh & a bit of a shock for millennials! https://www.abc.net.au/radio/programs/conv...8/10416794 'Incinerate everything on Saturday & off to the tip on Sunday!'

In high school all we made during the entire year of metalwork, was ashtrays! With the teacher continually smoking! It is surprising I didn't take up smoking! Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

Didn't you ever take your girl to a Berni Inn where you would have a Schooner of Sherry (or a Rum and Black) followed by a steak with a prawn cocktail for starters? Oh and don't forget the bottle of Blue Nun. If you were really sophisticated you had a bottle of Amateus Rose and took the bottle home to make a table lamp. Those were the days. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

Many of my highlights from the 1970s include:

Led Zep live at Knebworth 1979. We lost the tent poles whilst hitching lifts down from Wakefield - had to use the tent as a big canvas sleeping bag.

Sammy Miller's record run at Santa Pod in Vanishing Point - 0 to 314 mph in 4.2 secs. He improved on that (his still unbroken record) later in the year IIRC

I'm only a youngster then compared to you lot!
Born in '74 most of my growing up memories are of the '80s. Looking back I can't imagine how much freedom I had ad a child to go out and about to places my parents hadn't a clue. Sadly my own kids today don't get the same freedom now we are more cautious and risk averse.
My favourite radio station is naturally radio2 and Jonny Walkers sounds of the '70s is a Sunday afternoon treat. Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948

Absolutely ! and then there was the Cavalier Steak Bar . The Farmers Inn at Thornbury , outside Bradford was one such incarnation . I took my first true love for dinner , which was quite posh for a lad who normally ate at tea time Rolling with laughter ... Prawn Cocktail , Duck a l’Orange , the ubiquitous Black Forest Gateaux and If I remember rightly a bottle of Liebfraumilch , Black Tower of course .

I drove there and back in an HB Viva, because of course in those days you could have 27 pints and drive quite legally Whistle 2009 GS Auto Zermatt Silver - Sold June 21 after 10 years of ownership

The 60's were my time - Eel Pie Island , Marquee club, Isle of wight festival in '69 where we tried to climb over the fence for admittance only to land on security who ejected us quite forcibly. Mars bar shaped Vauxhall Viva (my 1st car)and best of all my mates Ford Zodiac which was a great bird puller.
Went to the same school as Daltrey, Entwistle and Townsend (Acton County Grammar) who were in the year above me but was in the same class as Alison Wise who became John Entwistles wife.

I just remember that on those TVs that could broadcast in B&W, & when they broke down the "repairman" would come around every year or so & put in a new valve instead of chucking out the entire TV!

Ashtrays in family cars front & rear! & you could open the rear window without being buffeted. Just as well with all the cigarette smoke! Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

Nah! You missed the real rock music of the late 50s and 60s. None of this modern watered down psuedo stuff you list here. Then again the true classics; Mozart, Beethoven, Saint Siens etc., etc. are timeless and truly great.
