From the NHS website
The risk if not on Ramipril type inhibitors is 1.2 per 1,000
The risk from Ramipril type inhibitors is 1.6 per 1,000

Granted I don't want lung cancer, but I for one will take the slightly increased odds (been on Ramipril for 2 years), as I feel the odds of dying from heart failure are much higher without Ramipril - I had an emergency 5 way heart bypass 2 years ago.

The way I look at it I have had 2 years extra, there are no more bad days, just extra days, some of these extra days can be tough days, but I am still here to support my family. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her

Statistics are great, given a large enough set of numbers, select the ones you want and you can "prove" almost anything.

But to put it into perspective according to the NHS website, the increase in risk using Ramipril is 16%, Smoking 20 a day is 2600%.

So although lifestyle is a big factor (and 26 times more likely is a large factor), there will always be the odd ones that smoke 40 a day and live to 80, and those unlucky souls who do everything possible to live a healthy lifestyle and still get struck down very early on.
My point is be aware of the risks, but don't worry unduly, and live life like it's the only one you get, don't waste your time here, and do think of others. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her
