Advice regarding rear end shunt and Auto box

Looking for your help please.
I was involved in RTA. I was stopped and was hit in the rear by. Seat travelling the police estimate at 40mph.
My car was in Drive at the time when I was hit.
The car is being repaired but I am concerned that gearbox May have been damaged as it was in gear at the time.

Car stopped and in Drive. Hit from behind means that the car will travel in the same direction the Drive will make it move.
No problem at all, in my opinion, because the brakes also helped to absorb the shock...

I will be more concerned with the structural problems and body geometry, than the drivetrain which is designed to endure shocks.

Pretty sure it’ll be okay. Just ask them to make a note that you are concerned about it and if a problem arises in the near future, you should be covered. Thumbs Up Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

If I am not mistaken, 40mph (64 km/h) are speeds at which NCAP tests are made. And the cars are getting out pretty "wrinkled".
Sorry and no offense, without wanting to twist the knife in the wound, but are you sure you still want to drive that car?

Ideally no would rather not have car back but Mercedes repairers say car is repairable .
I will be looking for any faults in first few days and then when I can ( it’s on a lease) change

It's a lease car, why worry? if it's not right you return it as not fit, the decision to repair is Mercedes. I very much doubt the actual impact speed was 40 mph unless you were shunted a considerable distance down the road, at 40 mph you should have a roof crease, if not it wasn't 40. my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis
2012 HSE SD4 In Orkney Grey now gone, best car ever.

seven years ago....
in the outside lane of the motorway keeping up with traffic (80mph?), a car in the middle lane spins, 3 series manages to stop without collision, the Corsa in front of me heads for the hard shoulder (good move) and I stop a cars length short of the 3 series. Great - but the Almeria (Nissan) behind me is otherwise occupied, and just doesn't even brake until 10-12 feet before the rear of my car.
Now the good news, he submarines underneath the Freelander, my towball is planted firmly in his windscreen, rear wheels of my car on top of his now collapsed wings.
I get out check he is still alive, and drag his car to the hard shoulder. Exchange details and drive home - that's why I will always drive a Land Rover.

Anyway getting to the point, the rear axle was shoved forward a few millimetres on the nearside, which I jacked back into position using a 50 tonne hydraulic ram and powerpack. The gearbox was fine for another 80k+ miles at which point it had done 185k+ miles. The fuel sender wiring on the other hand was a pig to sort out. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her
Replaced by Ewok what a mistake - now a happy Disco Sport owner
