Spare Tire TPMS

I prophylactically changed all 4 of my rolling tpms sensors when I put new tires on last month. The car is a 2008 land rover lr2 SE. The car has a 17" spare with no TPMS (to my knowledge). About 2 days after successfully programming the 4 new sensors , I am getting an error to check the spare tire. It's as if the car thinks it has a spare TPMS but isn't finding it (because it's not there obviously). Wondering if some how the tpms module was flashed in the process. Talked to LR dealer service and they have no idea and want $200 just to see it. Hoping someone can shed some light on this for me.

'Prophylactically', now there's a word I don't get to use that often Wink
As for your query, sorry, but don't have TPMS

Lol, maybe "preemptively" is more appropriate.

prophylactically
1 : guarding from or preventing the spread or occurrence of disease or infection. 2 : tending to prevent or ward off : preventive. prophylactic.

I have TPMS and 6 TPMS equipped wheel/ tyres, but have just swapped them around as I wanted (with no extra programming)

It seems that your TPMS system is just acting normally, with the non TPMS spare..

According to Stuart in link below you need to get a dealer to turn off the 'spare position' TPMS.

Thanks. That's sort of what I suspected as well. It just seems odd since the car spent the first 10 years with no TPMS and never presented the error message. Now all of a sudden with four new sensors I'm getting the warning on my Dash.

When I fitted a new TPMS valve, I purchased one that had been pre-programed. They are dearer than non-programmed, but work straight out of the box.

These are what I used. In hindsight, perhaps they were ready to use? And if so, maybe the coding is what created the issue I am seeing.

My spare has a TPMS fitted but rest of tyres don't is this a problem? If it wasn't so bad it'd be funny.

No. All 4 rolling tires have tpms fitted, but I recently replaced them all with new oem sensors. The spare has never had a tpms in it, and I've never received an error message to "check spare tire".

However, after the 4 new tpms were mounted and programmed, the dash is giving me a warning to check spare tire pressure... Even though there is not (and hasn't ever been) a sensor in the spare.

Firstly TPMS valves donโ€™t need programming, if you have the correct pnโ€™s they should just work after a short period of running.
If there is a problem you go into SDD and under service procedures you can manually enter the identification codes of each sensor in the correct location. You sometimes have to do this when replacing sensors so the cjb can identify locations, probably why your having incorrect position shown. MY15

This is interesting, my tire/alignment shop made it seem like the needed to be programmed.

Obviously it seems a trip to the dealer at this point is required to "turn off" the spare tire tpms - the tire shop is completely stumped.

Does this help?

It seems that as long as the TPMS valve has the right programming for the car, it relearns its position on that car, even if it is new to that car.

Yes. Very good into.

I 'think' the issue at this time is that somehow when the tire shop was "programming" they've convinced the cars ecu (or tpms ecu, not sure if they're separate units) that there should be a tpms in the spare even though my particular lr2 has never had one.
