Wheel arch liners a problem?

Gentlepersons,

I'm not yet the owner of an FL2, but browsing with intent, having been a Discovery fan since 1999...

Something I've noticed on several FL2s, but not mentioned in the 'buying advice' sections on other forums is what appears to be deformed wheel arch liners. It looks as if the inner plastic is buckling and coming away from the bodywork leaving nice big gaps for crud to be trapped and start rusting through the wheel arch panels.

Could someone assist with what the actual problem is here? Is it the whole liner that needs to be replaced & what's the cost?

Thanks in advance!

C.

Yes they do deform and even if they are not its good practice to remove and clean the muck out.

As for cost, if you are going to buy one from a dealer its down to them to correct any fault before a deal is done. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

Yes mine have come off too I’ve repaired the metal underneath and left it at that. I’ve seen on here people get some rubber from eBay that doesn’t have the metal through it as I remember they are pretty cheap.

Just replaced mine with some from eBay. About £46. Does the job sort of, but nothing like the original even though they have LR part numbers. Loads of crud underneath them.

Have a read of this thread - I have replaced the OEM with rubber fitments at a fraction of the cost and they are working well Thumbs Up

I think a little confusion has crept in here. The wheel arch EDGING does deform over time due to the metal inside corroding and can be replaced/changed for about £50 in total, the wheel arch LINERS are a separate item that, as stated, occasionally need removing and cleaning behind but don't cause too much concern themselves.

Thank you everybody for your prompt and informative responses;

Oldsalt, you clarified the main point of concern I had - it doesn't mean a full liner removal, so it's a smaller job than anticipated if I use it as a negotiating tool when buying!

Westville; That looks good! Is it just the moulding of the strip that keeps them in place, or would the benefit from a touch of silicone-type sealant? - thinking of keeping the water out even more...

Thanks again to everyone, back to Autotrader now and see how it goes; After three Discoverys (200/300 & a TD5 which went a couple of weeks ago) I wasn't sure what to get, but having realistically looked at the alternatives...

Cheers,

C.

It is just the moulding that grips the metal edge - pretty tight so far - I suppose you could use sealant but I didn't
