Which Engine is best in FL2

Got a friend looking at a 2013 diesel auto, sure I read somewhere that one of the engines was more reliable than another. Can anyone advise please?

Also, which is more reliable the auto or manual?

Thanks in advance.

England 2013 Freelander 2 SD4 HSE Lux Auto Santorini Black

2013 is the final facelift model, most (but not guaranteed to be all) the Freelander quirks were ironed out by this time.

a lot on here (including myself) are in favour of the SD4 Auto as in IMO it is the best combination of the 2.2D and gearbox. Tows well, drives well and just suits the car.

However if your friend is mainly going to be driving shorter distances, then auto may not be the better option as the fuel consumption on the auto is a little bit higher than the manual.

its all down to personal preference really and what he/she intends to use the car for.

Yet I did not find any difference between a SD 4 which I had as a courtesy car and my TD4.
Each to their own but would say BOTH are good engines which do the job they were built for.

BTW welcome. If it wasn't so bad it'd be funny.

RogB that’s the info I wanted - he needs his confidence building cos he knows I’m always underneath my d3.
I’m also tempted by a car that is more reliable but still capable.

If you are looking for reliability I suggest you look @ a Subaru or a Honda last car I would recommend for reliability is a Land Rover Whistle

But a freelander 2 is often described as landrover s most reliable model.
Sd4 auto gets my vote also. Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948

The FL2 is as reliable as most other cars. The problem is, as with all Land Rovers, that they are very complicated with lots of bits to go wrong as they age, although I have been running a FL2 for over 6 years and have not had any serious problems.

The SD4 auto is the best and proper luxury LR experience, and as above the post 2013 models have updated systems.

Just make sure that you go for the latest model you can afford, with a good service history, from a reliable dealer, and most importantly a good warranty. Don't be affraid to search countrywide as most proper dealers will deliver.
Having said this, you may want a Land Rover warranty which can be honoured any where. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)
FL2 Metropolis SD4 Auto 2014 2017- (16k - 74k+ miles) (MY2015)

Show me a 4x4 with electronics that isn't complicated and expensive to repair, the Hyundai SF has less electronics than an LR but no cheaper to run and servicing and labour costs are similar, also you don't have the abundance of non OEM parts so Hyundai is your only option, same with Kia and I suspect many other far east products. Because a car has a better build quality reputation it doesn't mean it doesn't have any less problems than a LR, just the owners are less honest in their reporting of defects. Hi all,

Thanks for all the comments. As trailhound mentioned (i am his friend he is talking about) I was in the market for a FL2.

I've managed to pick one up.

I'm now the owner of a 64 plate SD4 SE TECH auto with 40k miles. Helped a lot from all the comments on here and reviews i have read. So thank you for your help. Managed to get it with 2 years warranty, so hopefully that will help protect any issues.

Hopefully, I won't require too much assistance on here. But will try and stay active.

Out of interest, are there any major things i need to check asap, such as pumps etc changed under warranty etc? Do these cars require an EGR delete or DPF delete? I cant remember if this causes MOT failures now.

Thanks again,

Ant

A very good choice of engine, spec, mileage, and warranty, ----- and a nice car.

Don't change a thing, it will be okay as it is. Don't forget to book your Land Rover Experience day.
