Indicators cancel DRL

I was walking towards my 2014 SD4 XS FL2 yesterday, my wife was driving and had stopped to pick me up and the indicator was flashing. I noticed that the DRL on the flashing indicator side was not working. As I drew near she cancelled the indicator and the DRL came on (sigh of relief). I checked and found that the same thing happens on the other side ie indicator comes on but DRL goes out. Has anyone else noticed this? 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

It is working as designed. DRL’s are so bright that they can mask the indicator so the DRL on the side with the flashing indicator turns off.

Been happening like that since there introduction, they either dim or switch off depending on manufacturer.

Part of my Velars DRLs are also the indicators 21MY Defender 90 S 3.0 D200

I think this is a great feature of the Freelander and makes it easier for other road users to notice the amber flashing turn signal when in use. If you think this is trivial, then try spotting the turn indicator on later Nissan Qashqai with DRLs. They don’t dim the DRL when in use and it is much harder to see the amber turn signal. 2014 Freelander 2 TD4 GS Auto

When we were bringing ours back from the dealers I pulled up behind a van at traffic lights, and could get a reflection showing DRL on. Indicated right, and same reflection showed that the DRL was off. Censored I said to Significant Other, bulbs gone, not even got it home! It was only when we got round the corner the DRL came back on and I realised this was how DRL and indicators interacted.
I've always wondered why the fogs don't come on when cornering, as they do on some marques? Possibly because LR don't consider it necessary?

I think fogs coming on when indicating is illegal in the UK. (I may be corrected on this). Updated- Waiting for a Scotland v England 6 Nations home win. 24th Feb 2018

The fog lights on some marques come on when turning; they don't cancel out the indicators.

Apparently it's an offence to have fog lights on if it's not foggy. My wife was once stopped by the police going a few mph over the 30 mph limit and the officer pointed this out. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

my dad once go stopped by police in france, and told not to use his front foglights as they are illegal in france

this was in day time no fog and lights wernt on. it was just a warning

the route cause of this was, he had picked a new merc up from the factory, so was driving a car with german number plates on in France. he said he noticed quite a different attitude to normal from french drivers while driving that car

bit like driving a lancastrian plate in Yorkshire I guess Whistle At work
