Servicing schedule

Hi,

I'm not yet an FL2 owner but am building up my knowledge before hopefully taking the plunge sometime in the next few months.
One thing I noticed is that people mentioned a big service at 150k miles or 10 years and I also saw someone talking about their FL2 having its motor out at 120k miles for a service.
Well, I've never hear of motors being removed for a service so I'd like to know what the main services entail and how much they are likely to cost - I'm in Belgium but prices in pounds is fine as I might get the servicing done on trips back to the motherland.

Thanks

Paul

prices vary depending on where you go, and main dealer or independant

for a main service your looking at around £550 from a main dealer which includes, oil filter, oil, air filter, pollen filter, fuel filter
for an interim service your looking at around £350 which includes oil filter, oil and air filter

the rest of the service is normally just visual checks and lubing various points. Although there are recommended additional works at various ages/mileages (i.e. brake fluid/hoses at the 4th service and cambelt etc at 10th/150k service and cost anywhere from £800 to £1500)

they basically aren't any more expensive to keep on the road than a normal car these days, other than the rear diff/haldex which are heavily discussed on here if you use the search function.

hope this helps.

The engine does not need to come out for routine services. Jules

I only ever used a dealer on a Lancia many decades ago. Simply far too expensive. I actually took it away from the dealer & found an independent mechanic at half the price.

Always used an independent mechanic since. My fist car was a Peugeot 504, 250k km 25 years old, 18 years I owned it. Seat Ibiza 250k km 18 years old, my mechanic bought it & I bought a Freelander. Against his advice! But I bought the Ibiza against his advice!

An older car will need more maintenance but don't forget that you are still way ahead. Investing in a new car is dead money! In other words your principal investment vanishes into thin air instantly!

The longer you keep the car the cheaper it will cost you. You may have to spend thousands at a time every few years but you are still way ahead as you have at least not lost your principal investment.

A car is dead money, if you are too worried about wasting money on a car simply do not buy one. On the other hand budget & save for running a car as most of us one live once!

My next vehicle will be an electric wheelchair with all the bells & whistles, & more! Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

It was three and fourpence when it was passed on to me. Blooming inflation!
