what size captive bolts sump guard

can anyone tell me what size captive nut are that hold the sump guard to the subframe I think six in all with 13 mm heads I have recently got the car and replaced the cam belt and water pump along with an oil and filter change and the bolts were corroded so I damage them on removal anyone help.

Most cars i’ve had ended up with the tray under the engine bay (no way is mine a sump guard - unless you are lucky enough to actually have a sump guard!) held on by cable ties. 2005 D3 2.7 Auto

Just goes to show if the engine guard bolts were heavily corroded it tells me the oil filter has not been changed for many years as it’s impossible to change the oil filter without removing the engine guard as it’s a pig of a job replacing the filter.

I dropped one on the gravel drive a couple of years ago never did find it!. From what I remember they are a odd size 13mm head 10mm thread maybe.

I have seen Dan at Duckworth Parts (see home page) give a quote for them in the past. I think they were something like £2. I'd start there I might even get round to replacing the one I'm missing.

Thanks for the replies I think you are right about the filter was in real need of a change did the timing belt and water pump it seems to run much smoother now next job fuel filter and EGR blanking plate.
I did remove the sump shield and replaced it but still need to replace the captive nuts that secure it , made a few enquiries on Ebay see what turns up. AS for removing the filter had to use a 27mm open ended spanner I have now invested in a 27mm flexi head ratchet for next time got it on Ebay for just over £11 so good deal.

I think they are M8 but the nuts are held in place by a fitted clip'

Waxoyl is your friend if you want to be able to get your sump guard bolts off again.

You can also get stainless captive nuts and bolts - I did for my BMW - probably can for FL2 too Jules

Last time I used a main dealer for a service I commented to the service manager that the bash plate bolts are a pain to remove to which he replied that they use a suction pump to remove the old engine oil then they do not have to remove the plate. My next remark was how do you manage to change the oil filter then Whistle Whistle Whistle then there was a deadly silence Censored

I, too, use a suction pump then change the filter from above. The electric fan unclips and lifts out, giving easy access to the filter. 2005 D3 2.7 Auto

Personally, I find it much easier to remove the oil filter from the top rather than grovelling underneath & getting hot oil down an arm! (Now Sold). 2008 Freelander 2 (Nazca Sand) SE TD4 Auto. Statutory write off & on WOVR for hail damage but still road legal.
