Driving in London, what a nightmare..

I've spent the weekend moving No2 daughter from a flat in Vauxhall to one in Brockley. Being a good dad I drove down to use the space in the F2 to move most of her stuff. Normally when we go down we take the train.

I have never encountered such selfish and horrendous driving as I did this weekend, not just by car drivers but all road users. (And I've driven all across Europe in my day).

Lane markings were a waste of time, as were indicators, red lights and speed limits. Mopeds and scooters weaving in and out of moving traffic, and the use of horns was shocking. I got 'horned' twice, once for stopping at a give way on a roundabout when I could go forward, and one for being in the correct lane that Mr Audi wanted to be in who was in the wrong lane.

I lost count of the number of minor accidents I passed.

Ah well, my Monday morning rant is now over, on with the week ahead. Updated- Waiting for a Scotland v England 6 Nations home win. 24th Feb 2018

Did you play spot the English Man Shocked

Before from the deep South anyone shouts thats a bit racist the London centred UK is now far too unbalanced. Only last week I read a headline stating London was its own Country within a Country financially. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

As a young children on trips to London we used to count the number of police we saw as in those days there was one on almost every street corner. A few years later we used to count the number of black/asian people we saw*. Things are different now and it is difficult to know which group, if any, it would be possible to count. One thing you no longer see in London is the many bomb sites and burned out buildings that we saw on those trips shortly after the war.

* Before anyone screams "racist" or "non-politically correct" - tough, it is just a fact as that is what we used to do. Raciscm or political correctness was never a problem in those days.

Live in sarf-East London-sur-mer and work just north of the Blackwall Tunnel, a commute of around 5 miles e/w and I can assure mcsimmo that sadly it’s like that pretty much everyday.
Oh how we’d like to be away from the area but at the moment jobs dictate that’s it’s easier to stay put for a few years; for a quieter, less hectic life we’d need to move too far away to make it economically viable. The downside of living in the most expensive region of the country I suppose which you’d have noticed with your daughters rental costs!

You can't.
English is both an ethnicity and a nationality. So an English person is a native of England ie simply someone born in England. However, some English people have an English ethnicity from ancestry going back to the old English- tribes derived from the Germanic Angles.
So being English is not dependant on your skin colour. Jules

One small way to eliminate non-English from English people is that if they have a mobile phone glued to their ear and are having a VERY LOUD conversation in a foreign language then the chances are they are not English. Avoiding the national habit of queuing by pushing to the front is another clue as is the constant habit of stating loudly "IN MY COUNTRY" they do it this way/it is better than here/the beer is better in my country/the weather is better in my country/your food is Censored .

Makes you wonder why MY COUNTRY is so popular.

I remember one extended trip to the far north with a minibus of SE London schoolboys. One game they played was "spot the fat socialist British Rail worker". Happy days... Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone
300TDi Disco (bought new - terrible car) sent back after 18 months
Freelander 1 Estate - leased, given back at end of lease
200TDi Disco (bought from a mate with 100,000 on the clock) - Gone
Disco 2 TD5 - sold and exported to France
FR2 TD4 GS - Gone
FR2 SD4 HSE - Now changed for a DS
New model ex-demo Evoque S 180 in white
Unable to order a new DS, so gave up. Now have a Volvo S90 Recharge.

If you are coming through the Blackwall tunnel I pity you, it is bad enough getting to and from Canary Wharf from the north.
