Freelander 2 Side Steps Removal (tyre change )

Hi just looking for some advice with people who have side steps fitted, mines in the garage today, they have rang me up to advise me that once fitted they need to be removed if I need to change a tyre, is this true? Is that the same for all style of side steps or have I purchased a naff pair .

Regards

I’ve just taken my side steps off and I can’t see a reason why they’d need to come off to make jacking accessible. Might be a bit easier but not necessary.

Agree with Paulm - have fitted and taken off several different makes of sidesteps and slider bars - there is no need to do so to jack the vehicle - there is absolutely no need to remove them to get to the wheels - they don't know what they are talking about - odd that for a garage Rolling Eyes Whistle No Longer the owner of a 2013MY Fuji White GS

Hi thank you both for your response, after further clarifying with the garage they have now said there is no need to sleep the steps off to access the jacking point .
Thanks for your help guys

Also worth bearing in mind that there are separate jacking points for trolley jacks, which would not be affected as they are central under the car. A diagram has been posted before and a search should find it. Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone

My last F2 had side steps, (bl Censored dy nuisance in my eyes) and they never got in the way of a tyre change. they were genuine LR ones. Updated- Waiting for a Scotland v England 6 Nations home win. 24th Feb 2018

It may be worth pointing out that genuine LR side steps (& copies) instructions advise removing the steps to jack for wheel removal. They are secured by 3 x 21mm hex head bolts per side (same size as wheel nuts). Removal gives access to the specified sill jacking points with supplied scissor jack or whatever. It may well be easier to use a trolley jack under the centre but LR clearly like to do it the hard way. Whistle

Central jacking points are shown here: https://www.freel2.com/gallery/albums/user...acking.pdf
Note there is no central rear point for 2-wheel drive cars. Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone
