I remember watching the Spain penalties, the pub landlord hired a big telly, we all watched with baited breath, then the telly made a popping sound and died, we had to run out and listen to car radios Rolling with laughter At work

My partners cousin is a Brit, living 20 or so miles north of New York. He's been watching the World Cup out there via Internet and I got an email during the first half of last night's game asking if I'd keep him updated as a lightning strike had taken out his connection. He eventually managed to catch the end of the game and penalties on his mobile.
Inspecting the damage this morning, it seems the Internet has been 'totally fried' but hopes to have service again on Friday

That's the first quarter-finals over then. France deserved their win, really not so sure of Belgium though; Brazil were all over them in that second-half and the least they deserved was an extra 30 minutes, but alas not to be.

Belgium deserved it imo, Brazil failed to capitalise (esp in 2nd half) and didn't deserve an extra 30 min playing time. FL2 now gone and have a couple of items left for sale:-

Be careful, back in the 90's when the national lottery started, a guy in the office read in the paper that some mathematician had said that if you bought 57 tickets you had something like a 99% chance of winning so he went out and spent £57 and sure enough one was a winner - £10. Well, that's the best I have seen them play for a while, I think it had a lot to do with Pickford punting the ball up into the oppositions half instead of the players trying to play it up. With most of the big names out, I don't think there will ever be an easier path to the world cup final.

Amazing. If we lose in the semi or if we get to the final and lose, we are still more than worthy of a massive congratulations. Gone are the laughing stock days.

I wish my dad was here to watch it with me but I’ll be putting a St George’s Flag on his grave if we make the final. Let’s bring it home Thumbs Up LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

1-1 but if Russia go on to win, the semi final will basically be the Cold War. LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby
