Hi sidthecat, yes it’s just the last 6 digits of the number on your v5c or displayed on the bottom left of the windscreen.

My 63 plate and VIN fall within the block listed earlier although the technical bulletins only seem to cover Freelanders to 2004 and the relevant one isn't coming up via the search. Could someone that's a bit more computer savvy please download the appropriate link, thanks

Been looking for a while for anyone that has had this problem when car hot, my local dealer has been totally unable to replicate problem.
My car if left in drive at road junction as brake pedal taken off the box bangs into a gear and shoots forward, this problem is intermittent but seems to be happening more regularly, when under warranty during service I was lent many Freelander 2 auto's and their gear changes were smooth, so I knew mine was faulty.
Harwoods say that I should change the oil first at around £400 before they would change the gear box at around £8500, these are crazy prices, they tell me the software is up to date.
I am somewhat annoyed at the dealers attitude to this problem having originally sold me the car.
I will have to swallow cost of oil change, even though as another dealer said to me that it may cure it but at 30.000 miles it's crazy as oil does not usually require replacement until 110.000.
I am at a loss.

You don't have your model in your signature, but if it is a facelift model(2011 onwards) then there is software update for this problem. The main dealers don't always know about it! Mine didn't , but I printed off the details from a post somewhere on here and showed it to them , they checked and said OK, we'll do it. If you do a search it should come up. Hope this helps Thumbs Up MY 2013 SD GS Auto

Ours was bought from a non-LR dealer with a 12 month warranty, but less than a year ago. Do I address this potential issue to them, or to a main dealer?

Anyone any thoughts on my previous post - do I approach a main dealer and get the work sorted, the non-LR dealer I bought from, or the LR Indy I've used?
If it's a matter that'll be rectified by way of the technical bulletin, I'm assuming it's done for free?

I would guess that you have to go back to the garage where you bought it as your guarantee will not be an official land rover one. Take all the information with you and let them sort it out under the guarantee they provided you with ( make sure you read the small print in your guarantee).

Sorry I couldn't be of more help If it ain't ***ked don't fix it

If the whole issue of the auto-transmission clunking is covered by that technical bulletin this surely implies it’s a fault that LR acknowledge exists and yet I believe I’m responsible for the costs of the diagnostics to rectify it? Stacie at customer services confirms this to be the case. If this is indeed so then I’ll go back to the Mazda dealer I bought from to see if it’s covered by their warranty. Failing that go to a reputable Indy I’ve used for servicing who’s costs will be considerably less than the local main dealer
