Quite a bargain

Not my cup of tea but spotted this while browsing through the website for a convertible with one of the girls from the office.

Even though it’s 8 years old, you are getting a lot of car for your money I think.

Nice. I’m actually off today but we clocked it yesterday evening during a coffee break. The interior of that Disco looks dated now but still a good car with plenty of equipment. LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

It is a case with any prestige brand that, while depreciation makes them comparable with a more "mundane" brand as a second hand purchase, they are still the car that someone paid £100K for originally. When they go wrong it is a £100K car that has gone wrong not a £25K car. A £5K bill on a £100K car is of little consequence. When the same work needs doing on a car you paid £25K for it all gets a bit more painful.

Not particularly well put but I hope you get the idea.

To some extent the same is true of the FL2 in so far as a direct replacement might be a Disco Sport coming in just shy of £50K. So when people are taken aback that their £12K S/H FL2 might take £3K to fix they forget it is a £40K vehicle (or what ever it cost new).

We had a similar thing years back when my chums and I were buying 944's because they were stupidly cheap second hand and offered spectacular Grin/£ value. While the cars were cheap to buy the parts (pads/discs etc etc) were often the same as the then current 911 Turbo. Obviously they weren't going to be the same price as a part for a Ford Focus.

And again I have a mate who bought a V8 Vantage - The old aircraft carrier one not the Ford one - he made a point of establishing what other cars any parts were used on as, despite being identical, the Ford Zephyr (or what ever) brake caliper was half the price of the Aston Martin one.

Scotland 2013 Freelander 2 SD4 GS Auto Mauritius Blue

Reminded me of a guy I met in the 80’s who had bought a Countach. It sat in his garage for weeks waiting for a replacement wiper motor (it only had one central wiper). When it finally arrived from the factory it was stamped Fiat, and could have bought over the counter for a tenth of what it cost him as it was the same used in the Fiat Uno. Updated- Waiting for a Scotland v England 6 Nations home win. 24th Feb 2018
