Transmission not Engaging 2009 TD4 Auto

Hi there. I'm having an issue intermittently where when i put my auto into gear on first starting up the car will only crawl forward very slowly. If i take it out of gear and put back in the full power normally returns. Or if i just let the car warm up for 20 seconds or so the full power is available.

Any ideas?

Mine did this and other things before I fitted the extra earth strap.

I used to get that on mine if I put it in gear too quickly. Literally milliseconds after starting up. The wife said I’ve always been an impatient bar steward. Laughing Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

I've got same thing with 57 SE, been happening intermittently since I bought it 18 months ago. Local independant specialist never heard of problem, suggested a reprogram, it hasn't worked. Loathed to spend any more on guesses.
SYFL2 - I am very interested to know the details about the extra earth strap you mention, that fixed it for you.

We have the same situation at EVERY startup!

I have done all the suggested remedies but not cure yet.

Earthstrap, latest software, reset, new fluid, etc.

I the next few weeks I will have the gearbox reconditioned in any case and I really hope it will sort this problem as well.

I am curious if you will find the filter clogged...
Early years versions have been equipped with paper filters Shocked (that tends to easily clog with dust particles from bands and clutches) than later models that were equipped with fine plastic mesh filters.
Please post here the outcome.
Many thanks in advance.

That is pretty shocking!

And I understand that to change the filter the gearbox has to be removed?

Yes and this is why, when I've heard that you'll be rebuilding the box, I wanted to know and to verify this information since you'll be having the box in pieces.
When you'll get to the filter, please analyze it a little and see if it's true.
The paper filters, like the ones for the engine, are not suitable for an autobox where you can't change them periodically.

I am manual but..............

Some autoboxes on some makes have a cold / oil protection system and hold a while until oil circulates and warms enough. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years
