United Kingdom 2010 Freelander 2 TD4_e HSE Manual Alaska White
New to the fold and I was in for a shock!

Hello all,

i've just put a deposit down on my first Land Rover, a 2010 HSE TD4-E Manual.

I had reservations when I first rang about the car, I always had it in my mind that Freelanders would feel similar to a Defender in the "rattly farm truck" kind of way having never driven one, but was surprised just how wrong I was, it puts my friends XF to shame in terms of comfort and quietness on the motorway!

I've attached a photo from the dealer site, and will no doubt be trawling through the forums for any tips and advice on ownership.

It's covered 54k miles but I'm going to get the timing belt changed soon after pick up due to the age (2010), I've had a quote at £360 including the water pump, does that sound about right?

Also, are there any major things i should watch out for? Simple lack of experience with Land Rover's is all Smile

Thank you!

Steve.

Trawling is good. Keep off the bling and do the preventative maintenance and it should be as good as one Mr Nut's (apart from the fact its a Khan Laughing)

Change all the oils in anything that has oil in it way before what LR specify to include haldex filters (one change and one clean)

Don't keep a battery excessively long, keep tyres the same make and depth on both axles (moving front to back every 10K miles or so).

Thanks for the tips Bob, much appreciated Smile It'll be going into North Eastern 4X4 once I pick it up to have everything that should be done sorted (it was recently serviced by a LR specialist in Leeds but there's no specifics as to what was done)

I did notice that the stop/start didn't seem to function when on the test drive, which was around 9 miles long and the engine was up to temp, I guess it may be picky when it does it though? I've had cars in the past which were!

Thanks again Smile

Stephen.

I would not worry about the stop/start it has a mind of its own many of the guys on here including my self turn the stop/start off as the saving on fuel v wear & tear on the battery, fly wheel, starter motor etc just not worth it, also the price you have been quoted for new belt & water pump sounds very fair, good luck mate with the new motor Thumbs Up

Many thanks guys Smile I think the only add on I want to do for now would be to change the bulbs to something brighter, I used to have Philips Racing Visions in a previous car which were decent, other than that i love it!

Oh, just out of curiosity, does anyone know if they came with a spare wheel or a can of foam? It has neither at present and the Infiniti dealer has said they'll ring Land Rover to check, but it was just to make sure they don't try to fob me off really!

Lovely looking car LR NUT, I really liked the facelift model like yours, just a little bit out of budget sadly.

Better off with a spare not foam can. It was a add on from new to match the other wheels. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

I think that at 2010, the HSE would have had a steel spare as standard, matching alloy as an option and that the no-spare/foam-can approach came later? My guess is that it had a matching alloy, which has now walked...if it had been the steel, it would still be there as nobody wants them!

Thanks very much for the tip for Topix, pretty cool to see the full spec sheet! Turns out however it is indeed "less spare wheel", so I'll no doubt be on the hunt for a spare alloy once I pick it up. I had a fight with a can of foam with my current car, and the can of foam won..

Thanks for the heads up Badger, I didn't realise this doesn't have a dpf either? I would have assumed that by 2010 all diesel vehicles would have had one!

Have you looked to see if it has a DPF? I'd be very surprised to find that it doesn't have one by that year. (Now Sold). 2008 Freelander 2 (Nazca Sand) SE TD4 Auto. Statutory write off & on WOVR for hail damage but still road legal.

Yeah I checked the VIN and the 8th digit is a B, which seems to indicate it's a 2.2 diesel with no dpf.
