getting itchy feet

Hi Guys

Hope were all well I havnt posted for a while but I do check in daily to see whats going on.

Anyway to the point I am getting itchy feet and trying to resist the urge to change the car, mines a 2009 HSE ( log book says Nov 2010 ) with 76K on the clock I have had it 5 yrs now and for me thats a long time. I have had the Diff rebuilt under warranty, its due a service and I was thinking of getting its Cambelt water pump and tensioners done at the same time as I was planning on keeping it another 2 yrs it will also need 4 new tyres come winter and I need to tax it by the end of the month. so looking at £1000- £1500 over the next 8 months which i was happy with until I saw this at a local garage

https://www.wrightcarcentre.co.uk/used-lan...de-1357021

I havnt been to see it yet as I cant drive at the mo due to having an operation last Monday, its newer obviously lower mileage face lifted interior and exterior from what i read it has everything my HSE has apart from memory seats and pan sunroof neither of which I am to bothered about it does have the SD4 engine which i know is smoother and better than my TD4 and gives me and extra 30bhp, I think i am going to be looking at 7-8k to change if I did it .......... one thing i dont like is it has no spare and a can of goop and compressor instead.

So any thoughts keep what I have or take a chance on this it also comes with 15 months warranty dont know if its any good though.

The dynamic is a stunning car IMO, and the 2013> SD4 Auto is a welcome big step up from your TD4 Auto again IMO (I Went from a 2010 TD4 Auto HSE via an Evoque to a 2013 SD4 Auto HSE so have a good idea of the differences.)

Your looking at an extra 6k or so to change after including your estimate of upcoming expenses on your currently FL2...

Does the Dynamic come with a decent warranty ? what the tyres like ? current and historical servicing ? condition ?

You could take your spare wheel and jack etc from your current HSE and swap them into the Dynamic, also your existing side steps should transfer straight over.

Don’t know what your budget is but if it was me I’d go for one of the last of the line metropolis cars on the LR used site.

A bit more expensive perhaps but comes with 2 year unlimited mileage warranty. 21MY Defender 90 S 3.0 D200

one thing i dont like is it has no spare and a can of goop and compressor instead.

This is no problem. The space for a full sized spare is still under the boot floor.
For my first FL2 I just bought a second hand matching wheel on ebay, a bottle jack, and wheelnut socket with extending handle. These all fitted in spare wheel space easily.

There are plenty of FL2s out there, and the SD4 is worth having. Don't be frightened to choose a good car with a manufactures warranty from a good dealer that is some distance away.

edit I went for a late model Metropolis and am very pleased. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)

Good time to move before some big service bills and tyres. Land Rover Approved would be a lot more money though.

I was tempted earlier this year but my criteria to change was based on a car with no more than 30K on its back. Not enough out there then at a sensible price and they went up in price as the weather got worse.

In your favour prices will flatten out now but a local garage that looks after clients is better to buy from than going 200 miles to buy a car to find its needing warranty type work IMO unless its a genuine approved car. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

Thanks guys for your input, your all pretty much thinking down my route, J77 I hear what your saying and budget isnt really an issue but I do begrudge paying nearly 20+k for an out of production car or 18+k fpr something with stupid mileage on it for its age, yes the warranty is a bonus but I have a friendly Land Rover specialist so if the diff were to go for example that would be done for about £500,

I havnt been to look at this yet and wont be able to till Monday if its still there as I have had an Operation and cant drive at the plus my Partner wont let me till monday earliest lol shes hidden both sets of keys lol

swaping my spare to the other one and putting the repair kit in mine has crossed my mind,

Hopefully it will still be there Monday and I can go see it, as for warranty it comes with 15 months but I do Know some one who works at that garage HSE TD4 Stornoway Grey ★ Rear Spoiler ★ Black Leather Interior ★ Panoramic Roof ★ Navigation with Bluetooth ★ 19 " Alloys ★ Alpine Stereo 10 Disc Auto changer and Ipod connection and lots of other nice toys ★

so if your happy with the costs to change and the after sales service you will get from local sources, then I would say go for it, without a shadow of a doubt.

you will love the SD4 Auto over your current one especially in the MY13 facelift as they do seem to be quieter and smoother than pre MY13. And the Meridian tech is superb IMO

Hi

Well I was in a similar place, I traded my 2010 manual TD4-E GS for a December 2013 SD4 XS auto and what a difference.

I took the plunge and bought a LR approved used with 2 years warranty just 2 weeks ago and it is worth doing IMO.

Smoother, quieter and dare I say it, shinier.....

Go on, you can't take it with you!  MY2014 SD4 XS

United Kingdom 2014 Freelander 2 SD4 Metropolis LE Auto Fuji White

This is a posting I made last Sept just after I had decided to change for a newer FL2.

I was so satisfied with 5 years of running a 2010 XS SD4, I have exchanged it for a 2014 Metropolis.

I am hoping that my new Metro' is as reliable as the XS has been.

We found the XS was comfortable, easy to drive, and very good motorway cruiser. I also have tried the 'Land Rover Experience' in a car with the same chassis and I was impressed with the off road ability.

I have loaned a Discovery Sport on a couple of times, when my car was in for routine servicing, and I preferred the Freelander driving position and ride. So I kept an eye on the Autotrader Website for the latest model Freelander I could buy.

I bought the Metro' from a LR Dealer (some 150 miles away) and was very pleased with the service I received.
When delivered the Metro' looked new (16,000 miles), with a fresh service, MOT, and 2yr Manufactures Warranty.

My XS did about 33mpg (tank to tank) which is shows about 34.5mpg on the trip computer.

My advice is decide which model you like, then put a saved search on autotrader, and when the right one turns up,
----STRIKE---- It's getting the right car that matters as you have to drive it for a few years with no regrets.

PS My Metro does about the same mpg as the previous XS SD4. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)

at 2013 it got the facelist and its got all the Evoque tech in it and it has the uprated diff bearings too! A nice looking motor to boot!
Ive just sold my XS and I couldn't find one with sensible mileage at a sensible price and the Disco Sports are just stupid money there's a big gap in the LR used market at the moment as I really wouldn't entertain an Evoque

Well I rang the dealer and was going to ask him to hold it till Monday so I could look at it .............. Its was sold over the weekend no surprise there really,

He said he could try and source another and rang me back about a 12 plate body face lifted HSE SD4 which I wasnt really interested in because if I am going to change I want the face lifted interior also.

He then called me back and said he can get a Metropolis with 48K on the clock in red I asume thats Firenze Red ? for £20K with there 2 yr warranty thrown in ........... so I need to have a think do I want to spend that kind of money although I have loved my current freelander more than my XF and any BMW's I have owned

I have had a scout on Land Rovers aproved used and there similar if not a bit more expensive and you get a LR warranty. Will they bring one to a local LR dealer as I dont want to go trogging all round the country for one ?

So a question whats the Metropois got over a Dynamic or HSE? HSE TD4 Stornoway Grey ★ Rear Spoiler ★ Black Leather Interior ★ Panoramic Roof ★ Navigation with Bluetooth ★ 19 " Alloys ★ Alpine Stereo 10 Disc Auto changer and Ipod connection and lots of other nice toys ★

The Metropolis was a re-labled FL2 HSE LUX. It just has every extra that was available.

For the price quoted I would expect the car to be valeted, freshly serviced, MOT'ed, with a 2 year Land Rover Warranty, complete with free 1 day LR Exerience.

If it has the above, then you do not need to see car as long as you get the dealer to descibe the car and its history in writing.

They delivered mine from 150 miles at no extra charge.

Study the other adverts, put the Reg Number into autotrader 'car value' tool, and see what a fair dealer price is.

Offer about £1k under this and negotiate.

Good Luck. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)

But remember they don’t make them any more, when they are gone, they are gone! Big Cry
If you where the dealer would you give it away?
Go for a Landrover approved, if it’s another £2k, spread over 5 years is £8 a week
