Another gvif install

I have just bagged a gvif box on ebay which apparently comes with FL2 loom so hopefully wont be a pain in the bum to install.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/292476634767

I know this has been done by a few people here and I would appreciate any tips or updates.

I am probably going to mount the camera in the centre of the rear bumper. I did this on my Porsche Cayenne and it just looked like another parking sensor - it only cost me a fiver too!

Just a thought - is there any way of picking up a reverse signal from somewhere other than the tail lights? Cheers,
Raz

While I am waiting for my magic box to arrive I have been doing a bit of preparation work.

The first job was to install one of these ….

This was a bit more involved than I realised and involved taking off the chrome ar$e piece and replacing the existing door switch with the camera version, then threading the cables through the rubber concertina tubes into the headlining and down to the driver's seat area. It took a couple of hours but the finished job looks neat and very 'oem' - practically invisible really.

My next task is to get a reverse 12V feed to the same place and it occurred to me that the gearshift must have something I can tap into - has anyone done this before? Cheers,
Raz

Just took A look at your first post, do you realise the GVIF requires a permanent ignition controlled 12v feed AND a 12v feed from reverse light circuit. ? When I fitted mine I used a piggy back fuse to take ignition controlled supply from inside main fuse box behind glovebox. The cable was then routed behind carpet and trim until alongside passenger seat then over to the drivers side under the centre console trim. The reverse feed I took from the light at rear and fed a cable forward alongside the camera cables, seemed easier then trying to locate and get at reverse light switch.
The camera I used was one that replaces one of the number plate lights (does include lamp as well), just needed to remove tailgate trim to route the cable as you must have.

Suggest you take a look at a reply I sent in the electronics section regarding the connection to GVIF, two small cables MAY need to be swapped over !.

Good luck with the rest of the fitting - I do find it very useful.
