Mobile SIM options for the USA

I'm going to the USA for a short trip. I'll need a mobile for calls and data, my current provider, Virgin, their tariffs are too expensive so I'm thinking of buying a different SIM. Has anyone any experience of this? I've read about 3 PAYG but can anyone recommend any other providers? Black MY2013 SD4 GS Auto, Wood Company Armrest, Freel2 sticker.

I have used one of these on our trip to the US: https://www.prepaidzero.com/. It worked well, only problem was getting it activated. We had to give them a date to activate it and had to connect to the US network within 24 hours to get it activated. We entered the date we would arrive in LA but it didn't work after we landed. The next day it worked fine.

Edit: looks like some of the SIM cards they sell now come activated and pre-registered, the card I bought from them was not.

I bought a paygo phone in Walmart a couple of years ago and brought it home with as we nip over quite regularly to see family, if you want to borrow it, pm me. It has a California cell number but works across the US, think its on the Version network so easy to top up. REME .. Rough Engineering Made Easy

Thanks for the replies guys and thanks Lunar for offering to loan me your phone. After looking at all the options the easiest one for me is to get a 3 Mobile SIM and top it up with a tenner. I'm only going to the USA for 5 days so the top up should more than cover calls, texts and data. Black MY2013 SD4 GS Auto, Wood Company Armrest, Freel2 sticker.
