Perfect example of how not handle the onset of new technology.
Burry your head in the sand and then prey that the government will come to your rescue. Sounds a bit like the banks the other year. Let 1 big bank go to the wall and then save the others.

I have been investing for over 40 years and have been through the '87 crash, early 90's problems, the 2000 dot.com boom and bust, 2007 financial crisis and even the recent spring 2018 "correction" etc and found that if you buy good companies and funds and hold your nerve and buy in the bad times when the Joe Public is selling then you can do well. If you regard the stock market as a gambling Casino then that's a totally different issue. I never advise anyone on what to invest in and I don't use or trust a financial advisor. Do your own research and always be in a position where you can afford to lose money. I am currently fully invested and my wife and I don't have anything in cash apart from a few £k in a current account. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

I bought my first property in 1989 at the absolute top end of the interest rates, my mortgage was 17%. It was a 15 year loan, tried to do 10 years but just could not do it. Interest rates did not come down quickly either, & when they eventually came down to what was considered a reasonable level at the time, at around 10% level for the remainder of the loan. We lived off bread & water for years. At the end of the day we learned how to save money & it is was the best thing we did. I have not "needed" to work for years. Mind you I work harder these days doing non work things!

It is easier to save a dollar than earn a dollar! Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

I have found that the best job is being a pensioner - guaranteed income for life, no boss to hassle you, work when you like etc. Only problem is that you don't get time off or paid holidays Very Happy 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

Well there was the story of the guy that specified in his will that he wanted to take all his money with him when he died so the family put a cheque in his coffin with him. Laughing 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

I always remember a model train club meeting a long time ago. One night we were all sitting around talking like a bunch of girls! (probably more often than not) There were 14 of us, every single person had ignored their accountant's advice & got rid of all their debt as soon as they could. Some like me were still working off their mortgages.

The overall outcome off this discussion is that we were all very happy getting rid of borrowed money or were on a path to get rid of it at the soonest possible opportunity.

Live like a pauper when young & get rid of debt, then live like a prince, or king if you are fortunate & have early retirement! Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

Better still, different planes. I was in England with my sister, niece & nephew. I flew business class with Emirates & they went economy with Qantas, flights were at the same time! My niece was pretty impressed with the business class lounge & she was a bit sad that she had to go cattle class! Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

for business reasons and at these interest rates debt is good, if your business doesnt turn enough profit to pay interest on debts then its probably not viable. At work

I always lease my vehicles, it may seem expensive to some but I have always found the cost over 3 years to be comparable with the depreciation over the same period. I leased 2 FL2's but when it was time to change I got a quote for a Dynamic and fell off my chair - LR had seriously upped the prices and for a lot less I managed to get my first X3 full loaded and have never looked back.

Colleague at work had a plan in place with her VW, £x pm then in 2 years chop it in for a new one. Nearing that date she spoke to the dealers who said that there was a 'shortfall' of £5000 in their renewal valuation so there went her new car - referred her to some small-print in the agreement. Stuck with the old one for a slightly smaller monthly repayment
