United Kingdom 2013 Freelander 2 TD4 GS Manual Firenze Red

Stop start and low miles is the killer so yes Andy a car that does more miles can cope better in some ways but even then I feel 15K and beyond is /was put about by salesmen not by the engineers. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

Salesmen - I'm not so sure.

Accountants - they are the real criminals. LR want to sell more, leasing is a large market, but leasing companies want to know how much it costs per mile to run the car. So double the mileage between services and the pence per mile drops.

It has it's good points, why fit a stainless steel exhaust, when you can charge for a new mild steel one every few years (FL1 lasted 2 years!) - because the leasing companies don't want to pay for one, so we get stainless exhaust that will last at least 5 years. Why have a major service at 75k - leasing companies are interested in the first 100-125k OK make the first major service 150K. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her

It is a bit of common sense, if you have been driving the car hard, towing or lots of very short trips, change it sooner. If lots of low stress long mileage & you don't have a lead foot, not passing road trains with 4 or more trailers on dirt highways (in Australia) & you have not being using the low end crap fuel, a few extra thousand miles is not going to hurt.

You are probably better off replacing the engine air filter sooner than later! My mechanic for the last few decades shows me the crap which was embedded in the air filter, removed via a thorough bashing (ie Basil Fawlty car flogging). Pretty frightening stuff at what comes out & we even turn off the engine on extreme outback dust situations until the dust has gone!

Change the air filter before worrying too much about the oil!

Frankly, in the UK we never get dust - mud, yup, loads, but it rarely stays dry long enough for dust. Horses for courses.
